United States

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: FDA, CDC and the Southern Nevada Health District are investigating an outbreak of five cases of non-viral hepatitis reported in Nevada. The cases appear to be linked to consumption of Real Water brand alkaline water manufactured by Real Water Inc., of Mesa, Arizona. FDA is urging the public not to drink, cook with, sell, or serve “Real Water” alkaline water.

OUTBREAK ALERT: CDC and FSIS are investigating an outbreak of Salmonella Hadar infections that may be linked to consumption of a turkey product. A specific source of the outbreak has not yet been identified.

Public Health Alert: FSIS (USDA) issues a public health alert for products produced without the benefit of federal inspection by One Meat Corp., doing business as Eastern Asia Trading Corporation, a La Puente, Calif. firm. Please refer to the FSIS notice for a complete list of affected products.

Allergy Alert: MINDO CHOCOLATE MAKERS recalls Coffee Toffee Chocolate Bar (75g / 2.65 oz; Lots 190310 through 210310) due to undeclared milk.

Allergy Alert: Western Mixers Produce & Nut Company recalls Gelson’s Yogurt Raisins (14 oz; Lot #210330; Sell by  02/02/22) due to undeclared peanuts.

Food Safety Recall: MG Foods recalls three turkey wrap products due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

Food Safety Recall: Avanza Pasta, LLC. recalls approximately 2,237 pounds of meat and poultry pasta products that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: PHAC reports that the outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis infections linked to shell eggs has now increased to a total of 64 cases in Newfoundland and Labrador (26), and Nova Scotia (38). Nineteen people have been hospitalized.

Allergy Alert: Amra Services Ltd. (dba GluteNull) recalls GluteNull brand Goji Berries & Chocolate Cookies (320g; All lot codes up to and including EXP08/20/2021; UPC 6 28451 52913 2) due to undeclared milk.

Allergy Alert: The Fork Food Co. Ltd. recalls Dwarf Stars brand Pumpkin Seed Butter Cups Dark Chocolate (42g; UPC 627987 024913; Lot code HA 456; Sell by 07.21) due to undeclared milk.

Food Safety Recall: Harmonic Arts Botanical Dispensary recalls Harmonic Arts Botanical Dispensary brand Wild Harvested Apricot Kernels (150g & 454g; Lots 40601 & 10601, respectively; Expiry 09/2021) due to possible cyanide poisoning.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE (SWEDEN): The Swedish Public Health Agency reports that the outbreak of Yersinia enterocolitica that infected 53 individuals during January and February of this year has ended. Based on case comparison studies, it is believed that the outbreak was due to contaminated iceberg lettuce that was distributed to a single restaurant chain.

Allergy Alert (Belgium): Colruyt recalls Boni Selection brand Filet de poulet aux piments / Chicken filet roll with chili peppers (150g; Lot #121050; Use by 7/4/2021) due to undeclared egg.

Allergy Alert (France): TARTEFRAIS recalls LA MAROTTE DE CÉCILE brand Mini Blinis au sarrasin / Mini buckwheat blinis (pkg of 16; Lot #726223; Use by 13/04/2021) due to undeclared milk.

Public Health Alert: USDA (FSIS) issues public health alert for ready-to-eat chicken noodle soup products which claim to be ‘gluten-free’ even though wheat is an ingredient on the label. Please refer to the FSIS notice for details on the affected products.

Allergy Alert: Whole Foods Market recalls Cranberry Biscotti (Sell-by dates through April 3, 2021; PLU code 41712) due to undeclared tree nuts (pistachio). The recalled product was sold in six stores in six stores in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

OUTBREAK ALERT (Norway): The Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH) is investigating a Salmonella Enteritidis outbreak that has sickened at least 19 individuals. Three additional suspect cases are in the process of being confirmed. The NIPH has, in collaboration with the Norwegian Veterinary Institute, recovered the outbreak strain from a batch of beef imported from Germany. Infected individuals live in Viken (11), Oslo (3), Innlandet (2), Vestfold and Telemark (1), Agder (1), Rogaland (1), Vestland (1), Møre og Romsdal (1) and Nordland (1). Ten of the outbreak victims have been hospitalized.

Allergy Alert (Netherlands): Unilever recalls Unox Good Pasta Bolognese (All Lot codes and Best before dates) due to undeclared egg.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: FDA advises consumers that the hispanic-style fresh and soft cheeses implicated in an ongoing outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes, which has killed one person and infected eleven, were distributed in the following states: AL, CT, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MA, MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, NJ, NY, NE, OH, PA, RI, SC, TN, VA, and WI. Food Safety Recall: Mediterranean Food Inc. recalls Alqosh Sesame Oil “Tahin” (2-lb plastic jar; Lot #16082020) due to possible Salmonella contamination.

Food Safety Recall: MG Foods recalls various turkey sandwiches due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products, which were sold in vending machines and micro markets located in business locations in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and West Virginia and at distributors located at the Charlotte Douglas Airport.

Pet Food Safety Recall (FDA Enforcement Report): On February 26, 2021, Visionary Pet Food recalled Visionary Keto Pet Foods, Enlightened Choice; Beef Recipe raw pet food (4-lb bags; Lot 6626, Use by 09/01/21; Manufactured by OCPP, Santa Margarita, CA ) after the Virginia Department of Agriculture found Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes in the product. The product was supplied to Chewy.com, which was notified by telephone. There was no public announcement of the recall.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: The Norwegian Institute of Public Health is investigating an outbreak of consisting of 12 confirmed and 8 suspect cases of Salmonella Enteritidis. The cases are spread across a large region of the country, and are thought to be food-related. The source of the infections has not yet been determined.
