USA (Update): FDA reports that a second cucumber grower, Thomas Produce Company, has been linked to an outbreak of Salmonella Braenderup in 31 states and the District of Columbia. The outbreak strain was recovered from a sample of canal water used for irrigation.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: CDC reports that the E. coli O157:H7 outbreak linked epidemiologically to Raw Farm brand raw cheddar cheese is now over. The agency received and investigated reports of eleven confirmed cases from five US states (California, Colorado, New Jersey, Texas and Utah). Five people required hospitalization. The manufacturer initially recalled the implicated products, then cancelled the recall.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: FDA, CDC and their state and local partners are investigating an outbreak of 10 cases of E. coli O157:H7 illnesses linked to consumption of RAW FARM- brand Raw Cheddar blocks and shredded cheese products, manufactured by RAW FARM, LLC, of Fresno, CA. Four of the ten confirmed outbreak victims have been hospitalized, one with HUS. Cases have been reported by California (4), Colorado (3), Texas (1), and Utah (2). The implicated raw cheddar cheese products were sold by retailers nationwide, including at Sprouts Farmers Market and Bristol Farms. The manufacturer has agreed to recall certain lots of the products, and FDA is continuing to work with the firm to remove additional product from the market.
