United States

  • Allergy Alert: Sirocco Enterprises, Inc. (Jefferson, LA) recalls Pat O’Brien’s Blood Cocktail Mix (33.8 fl. oz./ 1-L bottles), because the product contains undeclared soy and wheat. The recalled product was distributed nationally in retail stores and over the internet.
  • Food Safety Recall: Green Valley Food Corp. recalls Let’s Grow Healthy Together Alfalfa Sprouts (5-oz containers; Product code 3440210; Code date 1/1/2012), after a random sample taken from a customer revealed Salmonella contamination. The company advises, “Till this present day there has been no related illnesses CONFIRMED because of this recall.” (emphasis in original Firm Press Release) The recalled sprouts were distributed in Texas via truck deliveries to retail chains (including Brookshire’s food & pharmacy) and food distribution centers.
  • Food Safety Recall Update: USDA releases updated retail distribution list for 10-lb chubs of Chuck Fine Ground Beef 80/20 that were recalled by Tyson Fresh Meats Inc. due to contamination with E. coli O157:H7.
  • Food Safety Enforcement Action: FDA announces that Triple A Services, Inc. and its owners and operators have agreed to stop producing and distributing ready-to-eat sandwiches and produce as part of a consent decree. The consent decree followed filing of a complaint by FDA that describes Triple A’s history of operating under unsanitary conditions and Listeria monocytogenes contamination in the processing facility, and its failure to comply with Current Good Manufacturing Practice and seafood Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point regulations.

Canada

  • Food Safety Recall: Groupe Alimentaire Miron recalls Minos Honey (5kg; Lot code L100913;  Best before 30-09-2012), due to the presence of drug residues in the product.
  • Medical Device Safety Recall: Smiths Medical recalls Bivona® Neonatal, Pediatric and Flextend Tracheostomy Tubes (Lot #1631477 through 1923406), because some customers experienced difficulty disconnecting accessories from the connectors of the affected tubes.

Europe

  • Allergy Alert (UK): The Food Standards Agency advises that some bottles of Chapelle des Bois – 2990 Ac Fleurie Wine may contain undeclared sulfites.
  • Allergy Alert (Finland): Kraft Food Ireland Ltd. Ab withdraws certain chocolates, because the product packages lack Finnish labeling, including allergy information. Please see the EVIRA notice for details.
  • Food Recall (Denmark): Harboe Brewery A/S recalls Super Peak Soda (2-liter bottle; Best before 24.07.2102), due to an off-flavor and possible turbidity.
  • Food Safety Recall/Outbreak Alert Update: Red Label dried sausages from France, implicated in an unspecified and unpublicized foodborne Salmonella outbreak, was distributed to Andorra, France, French Polynesia, Mauritius, Poland, Portugal, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, and Slovenia, according to updated RASFF Notification #2011.1880.

Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands

  • Pet Food Alert (Taiwan): The Taipei Government orders the removal of four pet food brands – Belicom’s Tuna and Beef Cat Food, Dobi’s Beef, Chicken and Potato Dog Food, Ever Red’s Beef Dog Food, and Maxwell’s Beef Dog Food – because none of the four products actually contained any beef.
  • Pharmaceutical Product Safety Alert (Hong Kong): The Department of Health warns the public not to take an oral product named 糖人365康巽牌桑葛活胰素膠囊, as the product has been found to contain at least four undeclared western drugs, one of which – phenformin – is banned in Hong Kong.
  • Food Safety Recall/Outbreak Alert Update: Red Label dried sausages from France, implicated in an unspecified and unpublicized foodborne Salmonella outbreak, was distributed to Andorra, France, French Polynesia, Mauritius, Poland, Portugal, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, and Slovenia, according to updated RASFF Notification #2011.1880.

Australia and New Zealand

  • Allergy Alert (Australia): Quality Patisserie Food Pty Ltd. recalls Pepe’s Vegetable Peas Pastizzi, Pepe’s Apple Pastizzi, and Pepe’s Pea and Bacon Pastizzi (500g plastic packet containing 12 individual pastizzis; All use by dates up to and including 10 DEC 12), due to the presence of undeclared milk. The recalled products were distributed in grocery stores, corner stores and butcher shops in the Sydney metropolitan area.

  • Allergy Alert: Rhee Bros., Inc. (Hanover, MD) recalls ASSI brand Gyeong Dan Korean Cake (8-oz pkg; Item #20649D) due to the presence of undeclared egg. The recalled product was distributed nationwide in Asian food retail stores.
  • Food Safety Recall: Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. (Jacksonville, FL) recalls Sunrise Assorted Flavor Gummy Bears (self-serve bulk bins; sold between November 14 and December 13) due to the possibility of metal contamination. The recalled bulk Gummy Bears were available in five Winn-Dixie stores in Florida and Louisiana, including St. Johns Commons (Jacksonville, FL), Concord Shopping Mall (Miami, FL), Pepper Tree Plaza (Margate, FL), Main Street Square (Fern Park, FL) and 70431 Hwy 21 (Covington, LA).
  • Pet Food Safety Recall: O’Neal’s Feeders Supply Inc. recalls Arrow Brand 21% Dog Chunks (40-lb bag; Packaging date codes 4K0335 to 4K1335), Arrow Brand Super Proeaux Dog Food (40-lb bag; Packaging date codes 4K0335 to 4K1335) and Arrow Brand Professional Formula Dog Food (50-lb bag; Packaging date codes 4K0335 to 4K1335), due to elevated levels of aflatoxin.  The recalled dog foods were distributed in Louisiana and Texas.

Canada

  • Food Safety Recall: Vincor International Inc. recalls Jackson Triggs 2009 Méthode Cuve Close – Sparkling Wine (750 mL; Code 2011-05-11), Jackson Triggs 2010 Méthode Cuve Close – Sparkling Wine (750 mL; Codes 2011-08-08 and 2011-08-09), and Open 2010 Sociable – Sparkling Wine (750 mL; Code 2011-07-01), due to contamination with glass fragments. The recalled wines were distributed in Ontario.
  • Food Safety Recall: 3903052 Canada Inc. (Establishment #1874; Boisbriand, QC) expands its earlier recall and public warning to include the following Clic brand cheese products, which may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes: Moujadalé (300-400g; Best before date up to and including 11 Mar 2012), Riviera (300-400g; Best before date up to and including 11 Feb 2012), Tressé (300-400g; Best before date up to and including 11 Nov 2012), Vachekaval (300-400g; Best before date up to and including 11 Mar 2012), and Desi Butter Chee (454g and 907g; Lot code ending in 45 or lower). The products were distributed in Québec and Ontario and may also have been shipped to other provinces. One illness has been linked to consumption of the recalled cheese.

Europe

  • Allergy Alert (UK): Asda recalls Asda ‘Choosen by You’ Hot & Spicy King Prawns with Garlic Mayonnaise Dip (240g; Use by 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 December 2011), due to the presence of undeclared milk.
  • Allergy Alert (Sweden): Axfood AB withdraws Eldorado Instant Noodles (85g pkgs; pork, chicken, shrimp, and mushroom flavors), and Eldorado Instant Noodles (65g cardboard cups; chicken and shrimp flavors) due to the presence of undeclared milk.
  • Food Safety Enforcement Action (Greece): EFET alerts the public to the seizure of 34 tonnes of finished confectionery products and raw materials, and to the suspension of operations of Bolero Sugar Trace SA, because the foodstuffs were unsafe and unfit for human consumption.   • Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall (France): Laboratoires Cooper recalls Arnican 4 pour Cent Crème (50g tube; Lot #005586, 005587, 005588, 005589, 005590, 005591, 005592, 005593, and 005594; Expiry 02/2014), due to contamination with an unidentified non-pathogenic microorganism.

Australia and New Zealand

  • Personal Care Product Safety Recall (Australia): Whiter Smile recalls Dr. Collins All-White Bleaching Kit (22% Carbamide Peroxide), Smile Fusion System with Viocin (22% Carbamide Peroxide) and Tres-White Pre-Filled Trays (Hydrogen Peroxide), because the products contain peroxide concentrations in excess of the recognized safe limits.

  • Food Safety Recall Update: Walmart and Giant Eagle advise their customers that Pacific Cilantro, which was recalled on December 9, 2011 by Pacific International Marketing due to potential Salmonella contamination, was sold in stores belonging to those retail chains.
  • Pet Food Safety Recall: Advanced Animal Nutrition recalls Dog Power Adult Maintenance Formula 21-12 Dog Food, Dog Power Hunters Formula 26-14 Dog Food, and Dog Power Hi-Pro Performance Formula 26-18 Dog Food (50-lb bags; Lot codes K0004 through K1322; Manufactured between Jan 4, 2011 and Nov. 18, 2011), due to aflatoxin levels that are above the acceptable limit. The recalled dry dog food products were distributed in Missouri, Arkansas and Louisiana.

Canada

  • Food Safety Recall Update: Costco Canada warns its customers that Fontaine Santé brand salad products (Best before dates up to and including 2011 DE 26; Lot #315-339, inclusive), which have been recalled by the manufacturer due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, were sold in Costco Canada Warehouse stores in Ontario and Quebec, and possibly in other provinces and territories.

Europe

  • Allergy Alert (Belgium): Lima nv expands its earlier recall to include all production batches of Choco Rice Cakes au Chocolat Noir (100g), because the product contains undeclared milk and lactose.
  • Food Safety Recall (Ireland): Aldi Stores Ltd. recalls Ballymore Crust Fresh White Sliced Bread (800g; Batch code DU 12 14:34; Best before 14.12.11), due to the possible presence of small rubber pieces in a few loaves.
  • Food Safety Recall (Denmark): Coop Denmark A/S recalls Lettuce (Packed by Brdr. H&H Knudsen; Lot 49B, 49C, 49D and 49E), after Campylobacter was found in Lot 49C.
  • Food Safety Recall (Greece): aftertaste SA recalls OGO Oxygen Water (0.33L bottle; Expiry 12/2011; Lot #L2746; Product of Netherlands), due to the bromates above the permitted concentration.
  • Pet Product Safety Recall (Netherlands): V & D recalls certain I Love My Dog and I Love My Cat cups and bowls, because the paint on the pet dishes contains a high level of chromium, which can leach into the food and water and harm the pets.
  • Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall (France): Laboratoire Merck Médication Familiale recalls Terpine Gonnon 0.5% cough syrup (Lot TG 0111, Expiry 07/2014; TG 0211, Expiry 07/2014; and TG0311, Expiry 08/2014), due to light deposit of excipients in certain bottles.
  • Dietary Supplement Safety Alert (Sweden): The National Food Administration advises the public that DunMedics has made misleading claims for DunMedics vitamin D oil intended for infants and toddlers. The incident has been referred to the Swedish National Consumer Agency for investigation.
  • Allergy Alert Notification (EU #2011.1819): Undeclared peanut in waffles from Bulgaria; distributed to Bulgaria and Slovakia.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.1821): Escherichia coli in mussels from Spain; distributed to Italy.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.1823): Listeria monocytogenes in smoked salmon from France; distributed to Italy.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.1824): Incorrect labeling on food supplement from Ukraine, via Latvia; distributed to Finland.

Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands

  • Proprietary Medicine Safety Alert (Hong Kong): The Department of Health advises the public not to consume to proprietary Chinese medicines – Jin Kui Shen Qi Wan and a brown-colored pill sold with no name – because the pills may contain undeclared poisons.

Australia and New Zealand

  • Food Safety Recall (New Zealand): Future Cuisine Ltd. recalls Pams Brand Wood-Smoked Mussels (200g & 500g; BBQ, Garlic and Sweet Chili flavors; Use by 13/12/2011; Batch #547) and Future Cuisine Brand Smoked Mussels (500g; Plain, BBQ, Garlic and Sweet Chili flavors; Use by 13/12/2011; Batch #547), due to a positive Listeria monocytogenes test result.
