Outbreak/Illness Investigations

USA (Final Update): FDA and CDC report the E. coli O121 outbreak linked to raw, organic carrots from Grimmway Farms is over. In all, 48 individuals from 19 states were confirmed to have been infected with the outbreak strain. Twenty of the victims were hospitalized and one person died.

USA (Update): FDA reports that 86 individuals have been infected with E. coli O157:H7 in an outbreak linked to an iceberg and romaine lettuce blend. The FDA has not revealed the source of the lettuce blend, but has initiated sampling.

Allergy Alert: Frito-Lay recalls Lay’s Classic Potato Chips (13-oz bags; Guaranteed fresh date 11 FEB 2025 AND manufacturing code 6462307xx or 6463307xx; UPC 28400 31041) due to undeclared milk.

Food Safety Recall: Ocean Group Inc. recalls multiple salmon products after FDA finds Listeria monocytogenes in two environmental samples. Please refer to the Enforcement Report for a complete list of affected products, which were distributed to various retail and restaurant establishments in California.

Public Health Advisory: FDA advises restaurants and retailers not to serve or sell and consumers not to eat certain oysters from British Columbia, Canada, Growing Areas BC 14-8 and BC 14-15, due to potential Norovirus contamination. Please refer to the advisory for additional details.

The FDA is advising restaurants and food retailers not to serve or sell and to dispose of the oysters and Manila clams harvested from 11/15/2024 to 12/11/2024 by Rudy’s Shellfish (WA-1590-SS) from Pickering Passage growing area in Washington because they may be contaminated with Norovirus.

Outbreak/Illness Investigations

CANADA: The Public Health Agency of Canada reports an outbreak of Salmonella Muenchen infections associated with direct or indirect contact with geckos or the environments in which gecko pets are kept. Three individuals have been hospitalized and one person has died. Cases have been reported in British Columbia (1), Alberta (2), Manitoba (1), Ontario (13), Quebec (2), Nova Scotia (3), and Newfoundland and Labrador (3).

CANADA (Prince Edward Island): The PEI Chief Public Health Office is investigating and outbreak of more than 550 cases of Norovirus associated with attendance at the PEI International Shellfish Festival between September 19-22, 2024.

United States

Allergy Alert: Pork Dynasty Inc. recalls approximately 469 pounds of ready-to-eat fried pork skin products due to undeclared soy. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.
