Outbreak/Illness Investigations

ITALY: Two are dead and nine others hospitalized in an outbreak of botulism in Calabria. The outbreak is suspected to be linked to broccoli in oil used in sandwiches sold from a street vending van.

RUSSIAN FEDERATION: As of 07 Aug 2025, five human brucellosis cases, including three adults and two children, have been reported in the Volgograd region. Consumers are advised to avoid purchasing meat and dairy products from unauthorized markets, and products from private producers should be thoroughly heat-treated before consumption.

Allergy Alert: Neuhaus Chocolates NV recalls Belgian Chocolate Moments Smurfs ‘Popping Milk Chocolates with Cookies (Batch nos. 80108690 & 80108763; Best before 13/01/2026) due to undeclared wheat.

Public Health Alert: FDA advises restaurants and retailers not to serve or sell and consumers not to eat certain frozen, raw, half-shell oysters from Republic of Korea potentially contaminated with Norovirus

Outbreak/Illness Investigations

IRELAND (Republic of): The Food Safety Authority of Ireland is investigating an outbreak of nine cases of Listeria monocytogenes linked to consumption of prepared meals and side dishes produced by Ballymaguire Foods.

USA (Update): CDC now reports 49 cases of Salmonella Muenchen and Salmonella Lome infections in 27 states involving contact with pet geckos. Nine people have been hospitalized. Outbreak victims range in age from less than 1 to 80 years, with 50% of the victims being 24 years old or younger and 20% under five years of age.

Public Health Advisory: FDA advises restaurants and retailers not to serve or sell and consumers not to eat certain frozen, raw, half-shell oysters from Republic of Korea due to potential Norovirus contamination.

Allergy Alert: Nutriart S.E.C.  recalls certain Nutriart brand and Laura Secord brand chocolate products due to undeclared peanut.
