OUTBREAK UPDATE (UK): UK Public Health advises that reports of Norovirus infections are 66% higher than the average incidence for this time of year. The biggest increase has been seen in the 65+ age group. The number of outbreaks caused by Norovirus have increased in hospitals, schools and care homes, with the majority of outbreaks reported in care home settings.

FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Gold Coast Distributors Inc. dba Shah Distributors that a May 09-27, 2022 inspection of the company’s warehouse and re-packing facility found serious violations of the Current Good Manufacturing Practice, Hazard Analysis, and Risk-Based Preventive Controls for Human Food rule, including multiple instances of rodent and insect activity, evidence of cats and bats, and structural deficiencies.

Food Safety Recall: FreshPoint South Florida, Inc. recalls FC Parsley Curly Chopped Fine,12 Count, 2 1.5 Refrigerated at 34F, 301193, UPC 10022363, Parsley 12 CT, DIST BY FPSF, 22363 LOC 51, Parsley 6 CT, DIST BY FPSF, 22363 LOC 51 (JULIAN DATES FROM 346 TO 354; Imported from Mexico) due to Salmonella contamination. The recalled parsley, which was distributed only in Florida, was recalled on December 22, 2022. No public recall notice was released at the time of the recall.

Food Safety Recall: Church Brothers, LLC recalls Parsley bunches (Boxes of 30 and 60 count; Lot code CB229534; Imported from Mexico) due to Salmonella contamination. The recalled parsley, which was distributed in Florida, Louisiana and Michigan, was recalled on December 23, 2022. No public recall notice was released at the time of the recall. Consignees were notified via email.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION (Update): FDA has recovered from a sample of Utopia brand Enoki Mushrooms a strain of Listeria monocytogenes that is a genetic match for the strain of Listeria monocytogenes that was recovered from patients in an outbreak first reported last fall by the CDC. The outbreak has affected three individuals, one each in California, Nevada and Michigan. All three outbreak victims have been hospitalized.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION (Sweden): The Swedish Agency for Agriculture, the Swedish Food Agency, SVA, the Public Health Agency, regional infection control and other regional and local authorities are investigating an outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis infections that has sickened 22 people from eleven different regions across Sweden. The outbreak is thought to be linked to Salmonella-contaminated eggs from a single Swedish producer. Multiple brands and production batches of fresh shell eggs supplied by this producer have been recalled since late December 2022.
