United States

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: CDC is investigating an outbreak of seventeen Salmonella Enteritidis infections in six states. Eight people have been hospitalized. Based on patient interviews and lab testing results, the infection appear to be linked to consumption of raw frozen breaded stuffed chicken products. The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has issued a Public Health Alert, cautioning consumers to safely prepare and cook these frozen, raw poultry products to a temperature of 165 F, and to use a meat thermometer to verify the correct temperature has been reached.

Food Safety Recall: Sun Hong, Inc recalls Seafood Mushroom (5.3 oz / 150g pkgs; All packages; Product of China) due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Food Safety Recall: Banner Smoked Fish, Inc. recalls multiple Smoked Fish products due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

Canada

Food Safety Recall Update: Produits Africa recalls three Mbambi sauces that were manufactured and/or packaged under conditions that may render the products unsafe to consume. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

Food Safety Recall: G.B. La Référence recalls Piment Shito / Shito pepper (250 ml; Units sold up to and including 28 May 2021) because the label does not bear the mandator “Garder Réfrigéré” (Keep refrigerated) instruction.

Europe

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION (Multiple countries): Salmonella Braenderup infections in multiple European countries are believed linked to consumption of honeydew, cantaloupe and galia melons imported from Costa Rica, Honduras or Brazil. More than 200 people in more than ten countries have become infected. With the exception of a single Canadian report, all of the illnesses have been reported by countries in Europe. OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE (Sweden): Sweden Public Health reports 36 confirmed cases of Salmonella Braenderup infections during the period 4 April to 15 May 2021. These cases are part of the multinational outbreak mentioned above.

Food Safety Recall (Belgium): Unilever recalls Zwan brand Plat à l’Italienne / Italian dish (425g; Lot code L0339A2M28; Expiration date 31-12-2023) because, due to an error at the manufacturing plant, a number of cans in the batch were not sterilized and are unsafe to consume.

Food Safety Recall (Belgium): Vleesgroothandel Vandenbroucke Pascal recalls various lamb products (Lot #2021; Use by 01/06/2021 (plain, ground) and 16/06/2021 (other products)) due to shigatoxin-producting E. coli contamination. Food Safety Recall (France): Carrefour recalls Carrefour brand Riz Basmati / Basmati rice (1 kg; Lot L HH; Best before 05/02/2023) due to aflatoxin contamination.

United States

OUTBREAK ALERT UPDATE: CDC reports 117 cases of Salmonella Carrau in 10 states. Thirty-two people have been hospitalized. The illnesses have been linked to pre-cut melons supplied by Caito Foods LLC. On April 12, 2019, Caito Foods, Inc. recalled pre-cut watermelon, honeydew melon, cantaloupe, and pre-cut fruit medley products containing one of these melons produced at the Caito Foods LLC facility in Indianapolis, Ind.

OUTBREAK ALERT UPDATE: CDC reports 156 cases of E. coli O103 in 10 states. Twenty people have been hospitalized. The illnesses are associated with consumption of ground beef from several different grocery stores and restaurants. Many ill people bought large trays or chubs of ground beef from grocery stores and used the meat to make dishes like spaghetti sauce and sloppy joe.

Food Safety Recall: K2D Foods, doing business as (DBA) Colorado Premium Foods recalls approximately 113,424 pounds of raw ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O103. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products, which were shipped to distributors in Port Orange, Fla. and Norcross, Ga. for further distribution to restaurants.

Canada

Food Safety Recall Update: Golden Pearl Mushrooms Ltd. recalls GPM brand Pea Shoots (100g, 230g, 455g; Product batch code 10851) due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The recalled products were distributed to retailers in Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan, and may also have been sold elsewhere in Canada.

Europe

Food Safety Recall (France): Manufacturer recalls EARL Le Moulin de la Fosse brand Fromages fermiers / farm cheeses (Sold between 2/04 and 20/04/2019) due to E. coli O157:H7 contamination. Please refer to the recall notice for specific information on where the recalled products were sold.

Allergy Alert (Israel): Angel Jasmine Bakery Shop recalls chocolate flavored balls and chocolate paste filled crunchy cookies (300g; Expiry 1.6.19) due to incorrect allergen labeling regarding presence of egg and peanuts.

Allergy Alert (Israel): Meshek Melamed Ltd. recalls Beyond burger, plant-based meat (2 x 113g; Expiry 01.10.19) due to undeclared gluten and soy.

Allergy Alert Update: Industry recalls Lotte brand Kancho Choco Biscuit (54g and 216g; All batch codes where peanut is not declared) due to undeclared peanut. The recalled product was distributed by retailers in Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and possibly nationally.

Australia and New Zealand

Outbreak Alert/Food Safety Recall (Australia): Rockmelons from a single grower in Nericon, New South Wales have been linked to an outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes illnesses in ten (10) elderly people in New South Wales (6 cases), Victoria (1 case) and Queensland (3 cases) between January 17 and February 9, 2018. The company ceased production after receiving notification of the problem and the implicated produce has been removed from the market.
