SWEDEN: Swedish National Food Agency and the Public Health Agency and partner agencies are investigating an outbreak of five cases of Hepatitis A virus, genotype 1A. All five victims reported having eaten frozen imported berries, strawberries, and raspberries, which were not heated before consumption.

Outbreak/Illness Investigations

CZECHIA: The Czech Republic reports an outbreak of hepatitis A virus that has caused more than 1842 confirmed illnesses since the start of the year. At least 21 people have died. Nearly 890 of the cases occurred in Prague.

GERMANY (Update): The Robert Koch Institute reports a growing E. coli O45:H2 outbreak with 351 cases (183 of them confirmed), including 48 cases of hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) and three deaths. The specific source has not been identified; however, the suspected source is one or more widely distributed contaminated food items, such as meat or sausage (plant-based foods are not ruled out).

Outbreak/Illness Investigations

CANADA Update (Alberta): A gastrointestinal outbreak linked to a Canadian farm restaurant and bakery in Alberta has affected over 100 people, with 107 confirmed cases of Escherichia coli (E. coli) infection as of 15 Aug 2025. Alberta Health Services has identified the pathogen as Enteroinvasive Escherichia coli (EIEC). The water supply is believed to be the source of the outbreak.

NORWAY Update: An outbreak of nearly 40 confirmed and probable cases of Hepatitis A has been linked to Frognerseteren Restaurant in Oslo.
