United States

  • Allergy Alert: Quality Food Distributor (Las Vegas, NV) recalls Steamed BBQ Flavored Pork Buns (12-lb cases; Est 34064; Produced between April 5, 2011 and April 4, 2012), due to the presence of undeclared monosodium glutamate (MSG). The recalled product was sold to a distributor in Las Vegas, Nevada and may have been further distributed to restaurants.
  • Allergy Alert: Food Lion, Harveys and Reid’s stores recall Food Lion store brand hard/soft taco dinner (13.4-oz pkg; UPC 3582605118; Lot #ga-aug07125), because the product may contain a milk allergen in chicken Caesar-flavored seasoning, which is not properly marked and was mistakenly included in the taco dinner kit by the manufacturer.
  • Food Safety Recall: Kraft Foods Group recalls Planters Cocktail Peanuts (12-oz canisters; UPC 2900007212; Code date 09-Jan-14), because the product may have been exposed to water not intended for use in food during the production process. The recalled product was shipped to retail customers across the USA and in Puerto Rico.
  • Pet Food Safety Recall: Diamond Pet Foods recalls Diamond Naturals Lamb & Rice (6-lb bags, Production code DLR0101D3XALW, Best before 04 Jan 2013; 20-lb bags, Production code DLR0101C31XAG, Best before 03 Jan 2013; 40-lb bags, Production codes DLR0101C31XMF and DLR0101C31XAG, Best before 03 Jan 2013; 40-lb bags, Production code DLR0101D32XMS, Best before 04 Jan 2013), because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella. The recalled dry dog food was distributed to customers in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia, who may have further distributed to product to other states through pet food channels.
  • Outbreak Alert: The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services has learned of five cases of E. coli O157:H7 infections in Central Missouri, that have occurred in late March and early April. A two-year old child and a 17-month old child have developed hemolytic uremic syndrome as a result of their infections. The source of the infections has not been identified, and it is unclear from the health advisory whether or not all five cases are related.
  • Outbreak Alert: The Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health has confirmed a norovirus outbreak at the Cebolla’s Mexican Grill in Time Corners, according to barfblog. The health department first notified the public of this outbreak on March 30th. Since that time, it has grown to 107 cases.

Canada

  • Food Safety Recall/Outbreak Alert: Intercity Packers (East) Ltd. (Mississauga, ON) recalls Intercity Packers Ltd. brand Beef Burger Meat Mix 80/20 (5kg cases of 2 x 2.5kg units; UPC 90066172180172; Lot code 046; Est 503), because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella. The recalled product was distributed to public and commercial food establishments in Ontario and Newfoundland, and possibly to retailers in Newfoundland. This product may be associated with an outbreak of Salmonella illnesses in Ottawa and southern Ontario, which is under investigation by federal, provincial and local public health authorities.

Latin America and the Caribbean

  • Food Safety Recall: Kraft Foods Group recalls Planters Cocktail Peanuts (12-oz canisters; UPC 2900007212; Code date 09-Jan-14), because the product may have been exposed to water not intended for use in food during the production process. The recalled product was shipped to retail customers across the USA and in Puerto Rico.

  • Allergy Alert: Threeline Imports, Inc. (Brooklyn, NY) recalls Kypoyka Bisquit (21.16 oz cardboard box; Container code 072611 042612), because the product may contain undeclared eggs. The recalled product was sold in New York State and Florida.
  • Allergy Alert: Los Olivos LTD (Farmingdale, NY) recalls Pan de Torta bread (16-oz pkg; Lot 50912), due to the presence of undeclared milk. The recalled Pan de Torta was sold to Queso La Ricura (225 Park Avenue Hicksville NY 11801) and distributed throughout Long Island, Brooklyn, Queen’s., Manhattan, Staten Island and the Bronx and New Jersey, and also was distributed nationwide by other distributors.
  • Allergy Alert: TWI Foods Inc (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada) recalls Crispy Pistachio Cookies (200g and 400g), Crispy Almond Cookies (200g and 400g), Crispy Coconut Cookies (200g and 400g) and Crispy Almond Cake Rusk (750g), due to the presence of undeclared milk and almonds. The recalled products were supplied to 28 United States distributors in 15 states including California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Texas, Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, and Washington.
  • Allergy Alert: Odwalla, Inc. recalls Odwalla Chocolate Protein Monster Beverage (12-oz bottles; UPC 14054 13509; Enjoy by dates prior to 23 MAY 2012), Odwalla Chocolate Protein Monster Beverage (32-oz bottles; UPC 14054 13504; Enjoy by dates prior to 23 MAY 2012) and Odwalla Protein Monster “Variety Pack” (12-oz bottles, four of which are Odwalla Chocolate Protein Monster; UPC 0 14054 26659 6; Enjoy by dates prior to 23 MAY 2012; Sold exclusively at Costco), after receiving four consumer reports of allergic reactions after drinking the product. The recalled products may contain undeclared peanuts and/or tree nuts.

Canada

  • Allergy Alert: Odwalla, Inc. recalls Odwalla Chocolate Protein beverage (355mL bottles; Enjoy by dates prior to and including 2012 MA 23; UPC 014054135892), because of reports from US consumers allergic to peanuts or peanuts and tree nuts who experienced severe allergic reactions.
  • Allergy Alert: Canadian Natural & Specialty Brands recalls Sunstart Brand Chocolate Chip Cookies (198g pkgs; UPC 8 77099 00002 6; All lot codes) and Sunstart Brand Chocolate & Orange Cookies (198g pkgs; UPC 8 77099 00005 7; All lot codes), due to undeclared milk. The products were distributed nationally.
  • Food Safety Alert: Canadian Food Inspection Agency warns the public not to consume Ayyam Zaman brand Extra Fine Tahina (400g packages; UPC 6 217000 429807; Code starting with EXP 10/08), because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella. The recalled product is known to have been distributed in Ontario, and may also have been distributed in other provinces.
  • Food Safety Recall/Outbreak Alert: Overwaitea Food Group (Vancouver, BC) recalls Western Family brand Pomeberry Blend Berries, Frozen (600g pkgs; UPC 0 62639 31347 0; All lot codes), because the berries may be contaminated with Hepatitis A virus. The recalled product was distributed in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario, and may also have been sold in other provinces. The BC Centre for Disease Control and regional health authorities are investigating eight cases of Hepatitis A that have occurred over the past two months. Five of the eight patients are known to have consumed the Pomeberry product, which contains frozen pomegranate seeds, blueberries, strawberries and cherries; however, no direct link has been confirmed to date. The product was manufactured by Western Family and distributed through Overwaitea and Save-On-Foods.

  • Allergy Alert: Fung Shing International Corp (Maspeth, NY) recalls Star Light Coconut Candy Keo Dua (7-oz plastic dish; Product of Vietnam; UPC 8936015503088; No lot/date codes), due to the presence of undeclared milk. The recalled product was sold in New York and Ohio.
  • Allergy Alert: Fung Shing International Corp (Maspeth, NY) recalls Star Light Coconut Candy Keo Dua La Dua (7-oz plastic dish; Product of Vietnam; UPC 8936015503071; No lot/date codes), due to the presence of undeclared milk. The recalled product was sold in New York and Ohio.
  • Food Safety Recall: PGP International, Inc. (Juda, WI) recalls Whey Protein Isolate, 90% (1500-lb Supersacks and 20 kg Kraft lined bags; Lot #J1360, J1361, J1364, J1365, J2015, J2026, J2027, J2028, J2029, J2030, J2034, J2035, J2036, J2037, and J2038) and Whey Protein Hydrolysate, 90% (20 kg Kraft lined bags; Lot #J1364 and J2034), because the products (127,335 lbs in total) may be contaminated with Salmonella. The firm-initiated recall was carried out by telephone or email and a follow-up letter on March 15, 2012, and is ongoing. The recalled products were distributed to Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
  • Food Recall: Bi-Lo recalls Southern Home Grated Parmesan Cheese (3 oz and 8 oz sizes), Southern Home Grated Parmesan and Romano Cheese (8 oz) and Southern Home 1/3 Less Fat Grated Parmesan Cheese (8 oz), due to a quality problem.

Canada

  • Allergy Alert: Uncle T Food Ltd (Richmond, BC) recalls Sanyo S.Itiban brand Salt Sauce Noodle (5 x 100g pkgs; Product of Japan; UPC 4 901734 000280; All lots), due to the presence of undeclared milk. The recalled product was distributed in Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario.
  • Food Safety Alert: Canada Safeway and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency warn the public not to consume Boskovich brand Fresh Parsley (sold in bunches enclosed with a band indicating the Boskovich brand and Product of USA), because the product may be contaminated with Cryptosporidium. The affected product was sold only on March 19, 2012 from the Canada Safeway store located at 124 Primrose Dr., Lawson Heights Mall, Saskatoon, SK.
  • Food Safety Recall Expansion: Mumm’s Sprouting Seeds Ltd. (Parkside, SK) recalls Sprouting Seeds Display Pack (75g sunflower pack; UPC 7 73295 11293 1; Lot 4DPSM13) and Sprouting Seeds Best Sellers (2 x 75g sunflower packs; UPC 7 73295 11290 0; Lot 1BSSM21), because the seeds may be contaminated with Salmonella. The recalled products are known to have been distributed in British Columbia, Saskatchewan and New Brunswick and may have been distributed nationally.

Europe

  • Allergy Alert (UK): Creme D’Or Ltd. withdraws Cafe Tasse Chocolat Fin Artisanal Noir (45g bar; Best before 15 September 2013), due to the presence of undeclared milk.
  • Allergy Alert (UK): Musgrave Retail Partners NI withdraws Centra Italian Bolognese Ravioli (250g; All date codes; Supplied to Centra and SuperValu stores in Northern Ireland) and SuperValu Italian Bolognese Ravioli (250; All date codes; Supplied to Centra and SuperValu stores in Northern Ireland and Budgens stores in the UK), due to the presence of celery that was not declared in the allergy information box.
  • Food Safety Alert (Germany): Germany warns the public about the presence of dioxins in excess of allowable limits in eggs from two producers, and warns that eggs from a producer of organic eggs may have been exposed to dioxin-like PCBs.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2012.0492): Excessive aluminium in sweet potato vermicelli from China, via the Netherlands; distributed to Germany.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2012.0495): Oxamyl in string beans from Morocco; distributed to Italy.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2012.0497): Insect infestation in peas from Poland; distributed to Ireland, Poland and the United Kingdom.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2012.0499): Pesticide residues in chilled lollo rosso lettuce from France; distributed to Germany.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2012.0500): Escherichia coli in frozen jackknife clams from Italy; distributed to Italy and Slovenia.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2012.0502): Mercury in dried porcini mushrooms from China; distributed to Austria, Germany and Kazakhstan.
  • Allergy Alert Notification (EU #2012.0503): Undeclared milk in dark chocolate from Italy; distributed to Italy and the United Kingdom.

Australia and New Zealand

  • Allergy Alert (Australia): Woolworths Ltd. recalls Macro Whole Foods Dark Chocolate Easter Egg and Twist Sweets – lactose free (All Best before dates) and Macro Whole Foods Dark Chocolate Easter Bunny – lactose free (All Best before dates), due to the presence of undeclared milk. The recalled products were sold in Woolworths, Safeway, Flemings and Food for Less Supermarkets nationally.
  • Allergy Alert (Australia): Heritage Fine Chocolates recalls Heritage Belgian Milk Chocolate Egg with Exquisite Chocolate Truffes (270g brown cardboard box; Batch #M011, M012, M013, M014 and M016), due to the presence of undeclared almond, hazelnut and gluten. The recalled product was sold nationally in Coles Supermarkets.
