Outbreak/Illness Investigations

USA (Update): CDC has now confirmed 90 cases of E. coli O157:H7 linked epidemiologically to slivered onions served at McDonald’s. Twenty-seven victims have been hospitalized, including 2 people who developed HUS. One death has been recorded. The FDA has initiated inspections at a Taylor Farms processing center in Colorado and an onion grower of interest in Washington state. 

USA: FDA has initiated an investigation into an outbreak of 9 cases of E. coli O26:H11 linked to a not yet identified product

Allergy Alert & Food Safety Recall: A Tu Gusto, LLC recalls approximately 7,630 pounds of frozen meat and poultry croquette products that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection and may also contain undeclared soy, sesame seed and wheat. Food Safety Recall: Whitsons Food Service (Bronx), LLC recalls New Horizen Gourmet BBQ Pulled Chicken Sandwich on Everything Bialy (Product code 903834; Lot W09302410024) due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
