PUBLIC HEALTH ALERT: USDA/FSIS issues Public Health Alert for ground beef sold at La Michoacana Meat Market, in Greenville, Texas, after a sample of the product tested positive for the presence of E. coli O157:H7. Please refer to the USDA notice for details on the affected product.

Food Safety Recall: Kraft Heinz Foods Company recalls Oscar Mayer Ham & Cheese LOAF (16-oz pkgs; Codes from 07 Feb 2023 20:40 7B through 07 Feb 2023 22:16 7B; USDA Est. 537V) due to possible cross-contamination with under-processed products.

Food Safety Recall: Lidl US recalls Favorina branded Advent Calendar (Premium Chocolate with a Creamy Filling) (8.4 oz; Best if used by 2023; UPC 4056489516965) due to possible Salmonella contamination. The recalled products were available for sale at Lidl stores between October 12, 2022 and December 5, 2022.

Food Safety Recall: Pinty’s Delicious Foods Inc. recalls Pinty’s Eatwell brand Gluten Free Chicken Nuggets (810g & 790g; UPC 0 69094 62591 9 & 0 69094 63498 0, respectively; Best before 2023 SE 07) due to foreign matter contamination (pieces of rubber).

Europe

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION (Sweden): Sweden’s Public Health Agency is tracking an outbreak of Salmonella Agona illnesses that has affected 26 people in Sweden since November 1st. The same outbreak strain also has been recovered from 58 individuals in Norway. A specific food source for the cross-border outbreak has not yet been identified.

Allergy Alert (Spain): The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition warns of undeclared almonds in multiple brands of dark chocolate manufactured in Spain. Please refer to the notice for a complete list of affected brands.

Food Safety Recall (France): GLACES THIRIET recalls THIRIET brand GALETTES DE BOULGOUR, POIS CHICHES, CAROTTES ET CURRY / Bulgar, chick pea, carrot and curry cakes (200g (2-pack); Lots 2160355 & 2208353; Best before 30/11/2023 & 31/12/2023, respectively) due to foreign matter contamination (small pebbles).

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: FDA advises restaurants and retailers not to serve or sell and consumers not to eat certain raw oysters from Dai One Foods Co., Ltd, Republic of Korea, due to possible sapovirus contamination. The Southern Nevada Health District notified the FDA of two clusters of illnesses from individuals that consumed raw oysters at a restaurant in Las Vegas on 10/28/2022 and 11/5/2022. 

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: FDA reports that the Salmonella Typhimurium outbreak has increased in size to 269 cases. The source of the outbreak has not yet been determined. The CDC has not posted any information on distribution of confirmed cases across the country.

Allergy Alert: Weis Markets recalls Weis Quality Sea Salt Caramel Ripple Ice Cream (48 oz; Sell by 11/08/23; UPC 041497-01288) due to undeclared soy and coconut.

FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Happy Sprout Inc. (Springfield, VA) that the agency’s July 2022 inspection of the company’s sprouting operation revealed serious violations of the Standards for the Growing, Harvesting, Packing, and Holding of Produce for Human Consumption regulation.

FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Winfrey’s Olde English Fudge, Inc. (Rowley, MA) that the agency’s March-April 2022 inspection of the company’s manufacturing facility revealed serious violations of the Current Good Manufacturing Practice, Hazard Analysis, and Risk-Based Preventive Controls for Human Food regulation.

Food Safety Recall: Hafner Canada Inc. recalls Sélection du Pâtissier brand Lemon and Poppyseed Poundcake (1.55 kg; Lot 2257; UPC 6 22267 04509 1) due to foreign matter contamination (pieces of plastic). The recalled product was sold in Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION (Singapore): The Ministry of Health and the Singapore Food Agency are investigating two incidents of gastroenteritis affecting a total of 284 persons who reported gastroenteritis symptoms after consuming food prepared by Rasel Catering Singapore Pte Ltd between 8 and 16 November 2022. The company’s have been suspended until further notice.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: FDA releases its weekly outbreak investigation update, including a new investigation into 10 cases of E. coli O157:H7 for which no specific food source has yet been identified.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: FDA reports a total of 393 Adverse Event reports and Consumer Complaints relating to the consumption of Daily Harvest brand French Lentil & Leek Crumbles. Complaints include reports of gastrointestinal illness and liver, bile duct, and/or gallbladder illness.

PUBLIC HEALTH ALERT: The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture (PADoA) is warning consumers to discard raw whole milk or chocolate milk sold in Dauphin County and other southcentral Pennsylvania retail stores under the BeiHollow label between October 12 and 21 and BeiHollow pasteurized cheese melt and cup cheese sold between September 20 and October 21, due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Please refer to the PADoA notice for additional details.

Allergy Alert: Sotto i Trulli INC/DBA Bombolo Biscotti recalls Assorted Italian Cookies (16-oz pkg; Lot 092222; Expiry date 04/05/2023; UPC 852158002272) due to undeclared walnuts.

Allergy Alert: Seed Ranch Flavor Co. recalls Umami Everyday Sauce (5 oz; Lots 010821, 020921, 030821, 051721, 081821, 120321, 012022, 031422, 042522, 081822, 092022; UPC 8-67732-00032-2), Savory Spice Umami Everyday Sauce (5 oz; Lots 120122 & 062521; UPC 8-50000-72724-3) and Everything But The Sushi & Dumplings Sauce (5 oz; Lots 071122, 081822 & 6188 BB061025; UPC 8-60008-58851-7) due to undeclared soy.

Food Safety Recall: FDA reports that Mariscos Bahia, Inc. has recalled multiple varieties of fresh, raw fish after a CDC and FDA investigation linked fresh, raw salmon from this firm to an outbreak of Salmonella Litchfield illnesses in California, Arizona and Illinois. The recall covers the following products, which were shipped to restaurants in California and Arizona on or after June 14, 2022: Fresh Salmon Fillet, Fresh Deep Skin Salmon Fillet, Fresh Salmon Portions, Chilean Seabass (Fillet and Portions), Halibut (Fillet and Portions), Tuna (Fillet and Loin), Swordfish (Loin, Fillet, and Wheel).
