United States

CONSUMER ALERT: FDA and Maryland Department of Health analyses have determined that certain weight loss products labeled as Nuez de la India, and potentially marketed as “botanical food,” “India Nuts for Weight Loss,” “slimming seeds,” “India seeds for weight loss,” or “diet seeds,” appear to be highly toxic yellow oleander, a poisonous plant native to Mexico and Central America.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION (Minnesota): Minnesota health officials are investigating eight cases of cryptosporidiosis and one case of E. coli O111:H8 illness linked to Healthy Harvest Farm and Kitchen raw milk. The milk may be labeled natural A2 milk, and consumers may be unaware that the milk has not been pasteurized.

Allergy Alert: Weis Markets Inc. recalls Weis Quality Brownie Moose Tracks Ice Cream (48oz; UPC 041497-01194; All sell-by dates) due to undeclared egg.

Food Safety Recall: TODORGANIC INC recalls Nuez de la India Seeds (2-oz bags containing 12 seeds) because FDA analysis has determined that the seeds appear to be Thevetia peruviana, or yellow oleander, a highly toxic plant.

Canada

Allergy Alert: Boucherie les 2 frères (Montréal, QC) recalls multiple varieties of sausages due to undeclared mustard and/or sulphites. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

Allergy Alert: Boucherie Gros Loup inc. (Saint-Alexandre-de-Kamouraska, QC) recalls Pepperoni maison faible en gras / Low-fat house pepperoni and Pepperoni fumé / Smoked pepperoni (All product sold up to 30 August 2023) due to undeclared milk.

Food Safety Recall: Hôtel St-Alban inc. (Saint-Alban, QC) recalls SAUCE À SPAGHETTI / Spaghetti sauce and RAGOÛT DE BOULETTES / Meatball stew (All product sold up to 1 September 2023) due to omission of mandatory storage temperature label instructions.

Europe

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE (Sweden): The Public Health Authority and the Swedish Food Agency continue to investigate a deadly outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes that has sickened 19 individuals from 10 different parts of the country. Six of the victims have died. The illnesses appear to be linked to consumption of vacuum-packaged smoked salmon.
