United States

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: FDA is conducting an on-site inspection as part of its investigation into 446 adverse event reports associated with dry cereal. Although the agency has not identified the brand, variety or manufacturer, the website iwaspoisoned.com has received more than 6,400 reports of illness associated with consumption of Lucky Charms cereal.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: FDA is investigating 6 adverse event reports associated with an unspecified meal replacement drink. The agency has initiated a traceback investigation and is collecting and analyzing samples.

PUBLIC HEALTH ALERT: FSIS issues a public health alert due to concerns that specific ground beef products may be adulterated with E. coli O26. A recall was not requested because the products are no longer available for purchase. The problem was discovered after a consumer submitted a retail package of ground beef produced by Empire Packing bearing a use or freeze by date of “December 24, 2021” to a third-party laboratory for microbiological analysis. The consumer reported previously becoming ill but did not get tested for E coli.  The third-party laboratory confirmed the ground beef sample was positive for E. coli O26.                                 

Food Safety Recall: Lakeside Refrigerated Services recalls approximately 120,872 pounds of ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O103. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

Allergy Alert: TJX Canada recalls Pimlico Confectioners brand Vegan Fine Hazelnut Truffles (110g; Lot #16840142200; Best before 01/14/2024; UPC 5 060380 694614) due to undeclared milk.

Food Safety Recall: Retailers recall GRAINES DE PAVOT BLEU BIOLOGIQUES / Organic blue poppy seeds (variable weights; Sold up to 25 April 2022) due to possible Salmonella contamination.

Food Safety Recall: Boucherie Charcuterie chez Vito (Montréal, QC) recalls GRUYÈRE SWISS / Swiss Gruyère cheese (Sold up to 27 April 2022) due to absence of label information stating that the cheese was made from raw milk.

Food Safety Recall Update (Israel): Strauss extends its previous recalls to include all Elite Chocolate factory products, Elite cakes, waffles, energy cereal snacks, energy-coated chocolate chips, chewing gum and toffee candies (All expiration dates) after Salmonella was found in two samples. The company has suspended operations in its Nof Hagalil facility pending correction of the deficiencies that led to the contamination.

Food Safety Recall (Israel): Unilever Israel recalls multiple ice cream products that may be contaminated with Salmonella. The recalled items were manufactured using chocolate supplied by Strauss. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: CDC reports three cases of Listeria monocytogenes infections linked to consumption of pre-cooked chicken in Delaware and Texas. All three victims were hospitalized and there was one death. Tyson Foods recalled more than 8 million pounds of pre-cooked chicken after the outbreak strain was recovered from a sample of one of its products during routine USDA testing.
