Allergy Alert (UK): Waitrose recalls Waitrose Easy to Cook Scottish Salmon En Croute with Cheese and Chive Sauce (350g; Best before 02 October 2024 and 03 October 2024) and Waitrose Easy to Cook Salmon and Sweet Potato Curry (500g; Best before 02 October 2024 and 03 October 2024) due to undeclared milk, mustard, soya and wheat (gluten).

FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns P&L Bean Sprout Farm (Cochranville, PA) that a January 31, 2024, through March 12, 2024 inspection of the company’s sprouting operation found that their mung bean and soybean sprout products were adulterated within the meaning of section 402(a)(4) of the Act [21 U.S.C. § 324(a)(4)], in that they have been prepared, packed, or held under insanitary conditions whereby they may have become contaminated with filth or whereby they may have been rendered injurious to health.

FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns AUSTROFOOD S.A.S. (Quito, Ecuador) that a December 4 through December 14, 2023 inspection of the company’s ready-to-eat (RTE) acidified and acid food fruit pulp and puree product manufacturing facility found serious violation of the Current Good Manufacturing Practice, Hazard Analysis, and Risk-Based Preventive Controls for Human Food regulation (CGMP & PC rule), Title 21, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 117 (21 CFR Part 117) and the Act.

Outbreak/Illness Investigations

Denmark: The Statens Serum Institut is investigating an outbreak of Salmonella monophasic Typhimurium (sequence type 34) that has infected 58 people during the April-June 2024 period. Cases have been confirmed from several regions of the country. A

USA (Update): FDA has initiated a traceback investigation for an outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium illnesses that has not yet been linked to a specific food source. The number of cases has increased to 80 from the initial report of 53.

USA (Update): CDC and FDA report 449 illnesses and 125 hospitalizations in an outbreak of Salmonella Africana and Salmonella Braenderup infections traced to contaminated cucumbers from Florida.

USA (Update): CDC and FDA report 48 illnesses, 27 hospitalizations and one possible death associated with consumption of Diamond Shruumz-Brand Chocolate Bars, Cones, & Gummies.
