Outbreak/Illness Investigations

USA (Final Update): CDC reports that cucumbers grown in Sonora, Mexico by Agrotato, S.A. de C.V. and imported into the United States are responsible for 113 confirmed cases of Salmonella Typhimurium infections, including 28 hospitalizations. Illnesses were confirmed in 23 states. According to the CDC, this outbreak is now over.

Allergy Alert: The Mochi Ice Cream Company LLC recalls Peach Mango Sorbet (7.5 oz; Lots  337-24 & 341-24) due to undeclared egg.

Allergy Alert: Dierbergs recalls Premium Home-Style Mashed Potatoes (16 oz; Label ID 92; Sell by January 09, 2025) due to undeclared wheat.

Public Health Alert: FSIS issues Public Health Alert for bettergoods TRADITIONALLY CRAFTED Chicken Curry Empanadas (9.6 oz; Best by 05/21/26 &  05/22/26; Est P33967) due to undeclared milk.

Outbreak/Illness Investigations

Denmark: The Statens Serum Institut continues to track an outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium (sequence type 19) illnesses linked to consumption of minced beef. The outbreak has affected 64 individuals since March 2024.

USA: FDA and CDC report an increase in Salmonella Africana illnesses associated epidemiologically with consumption of whole cucumbers. Twenty-eight states and the District of Columbia have now reported a total of 196 confirmed outbreak cases; 68 of the outbreak victims have been hospitalized.

USA: FDA and CDC continue to investigate a cluster of 12 illnesses associated with consumption of Diamond Shruumz Brand Chocolate Bars, Cones & Gummies. Victims have reported a variety of severe symptoms including seizures, central nervous system depression (loss of consciousness, confusion, sleepiness), agitation, abnormal heart rates, hyper/hypotension, nausea, and vomiting.

Allergy Alert: Bonneval Foods, LLC recalls BONNEVAL’S BBQ Pork Skins (1.7 oz; All lots) due to undeclared wheat and soy.

FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Midwest Foods, LLC that a December 11-13, 2023 inspection of the company’s ready-to-eat (RTE) food manufacturing facility revealed significant violations of the Acidified Foods regulation and Emergency Permit Control regulation.

Pet Treat Safety Recall: TDBBS, LLC. recalls 5,279 bags of Best brand and Barkworthies brand bully sticks due to foreign matter contamination (metal). Please refer to the Enforcement Report notice for a complete list of affected products.

Animal Feed Safety Recall: ADM Animal Nutrition recalls multiple animal feed products sold under the Grostrong, MoorMan’s, MaxLean, Roughage Buster, Pen Pals, Patriot, Goat Power, Juniorglo, Rack Plus, Seniorglo brand names due to elevated levels of magnesium, sodium, calcium, chloride and/or phosphorus in certain lots. Food Safety Recall: 2629073 Ontario Inc. recalls Panchvati Supermarket brand Black Pepper Powder Coarse (200g; Batch no. 12062023; UPC 1 23456 00217 3) due to foreign matter contamination (sand and dirt).
