United States

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: FDA is investigating possible food sources linked to a new outbreak of 16 confirmed Listeria monocytogenes infections. No other details are available at this time.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: FDA has initiated sample collection and analysis in its ongoing investigation of a Salmonella Javiana outbreak that has grown to include 51 confirmed cases.

Food Safety Recall: New Alasko Limited Partnership recalls Alasko brand IQF whole kernel corn (12 kg / 6 x 2 kg; Lot #GT21120; UPC 1 069505 816003 4) due to possible Salmonella contamination. This recall was triggered by findings by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) during its investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak. The investigation into the source of the foodborne illness outbreak is ongoing; however, at this time there have been no confirmed illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: CDC reports 592 confirmed cases of Salmonella Oranienburg infections in 36 states, with 116 people hospitalized. The investigation has not yet identified a food linked to illness.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE (SWEDEN): Since July 2019, 36 people have been reported ill with several different types of Salmonella. The illnesses have been linked to consumption of sesame-based products from Syria, including tahini and halvah. This outbreak is international in scope.

Europe

OUTBREAK ALERT (NORWAY): The Public Health Institute, Food Safety Authority and other federal and municipal agencies are investigating three cases of a single variant of enterohaemorrhagic E. coli to determine whether there is a common source for the infections.

OUTBREAK ALERT – DOGS (NORWAY): The Norwegian Food Safety Authority and the Veterinary Institute are investigating an outbreak of severe diarrhea and vomiting in dogs. Autopsies conducted on three of the dogs have revealed severe bowel disease. Two different pathogenic bacteria – Clostridium perfringens and Providencia – have been recovered from the autopsied dogs. A definite cause of the illnesses has not yet been determined and the source has not been discovered. No human illnesses relating to this outbreak have been reported.
