OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: CDC is investigating 205 reports of suspected lead poisoning linked to Cinnamon Applesauce products. This includes 67 confirmed cases, 122 probable cases, and 16 suspect cases. Incidents under investigation have been identified in 33 states.

Public Health Advisory: FDA advises restaurants and food retailers not to serve or sell and to dispose of oysters and consumers not to eat oysters from Pacific Oyster Fanny Bay, harvested on 11/08/2023 from harvest area BC 14- 8 with Landfile # 1402294 and Oyster Malaspina Live, harvested on 11/09/2023 from harvest area BC 14-8 with Landfile # 278761 and shipped to distributors in Utah and Wisconsin because they may be contaminated with Campylobacter jejuni.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: PHAC reports 7 deaths and 164 laboratory-confirmed cases of Salmonella infections linked to contaminated cantaloupes from Mexico. Cases have been reported in British Columbia (18), Alberta (4), Ontario (21), Quebec (111), Prince Edward Island (2), New Brunswick (2), Nova Scotia (4) and Newfoundland and Labrador (2). Sixty-one (61) victims have been hospitalized. Additional cases are under investigation.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: FDA reports an increase in confirmed outbreak cases of Salmonella Newport illnesses from 8 to 10. Investigation into the source of the illnesses is ongoing.

Allergy Alert: David’s Cookies recalls Marketside Chocolate Chip Explosion Cake” (7-oz pkg; Lot BS23212) due to undeclared peanuts.

Food Safety Alert (New York State): New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets warns consumers that unpasteurized raw milk from Sunset View Creamer LLC may be contaminated with Campylobacter jejuni and should not be consumed. The producer is now prohibited from selling raw milk until subsequent sampling indicates that the product is free of the pathogen.

Food Safety Recall (Georgia): Rock House Creamery recalls Rock House Creamery whole milk (Best buy dates 9/10/2023, 9/17/2023, 9/20/2023, 9/24/2023, and 10/01/2023) and Rock House Creamery buttermilk (Best buy date 10/02/2023) due to incomplete pasteurization records. The problem was discovered during a routine inspection conducted by the Georgia Department of Agriculture.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: Food containing morel mushrooms imported from China may be source of deadly food poisoning outbreak among patrons of Dave’s Sushi in Bozeman, Montana. The outbreak, which has sickened at least 30 people and killed two, outbreak appears to be isolated to people who ate at Dave’s Sushi between March 31 and April 17, 2023. No specific pathogen or toxin has yet been identified.

Allergy Alert: FSIS alerts the public that MEATLOAF & TOMATO SAUCE MIXED RICE AND SPINACH, frozen (14-oz. paper or plastic three compartment tray; Use or discard by May 1, 2023, May 13, 2023, June 15, 2023, and June 28, 2023) due to undeclared egg, milk, soy, and wheat.
