Outbreak/Illness Investigations

USA (Updates): FDA continues to investigate outbreaks of Salmonella Irumu and Salmonella Typhimurium, neither of which has yet been linked to an identified product. The Salmonella Irumu outbreak has grown to 29 cases, and the Salmonella Typhimurium outbreak now stands at 87 cases. Traceback investigations have been initiated for both outbreaks.

United States

Food Safety Recall: Wiers Farm Inc. recalls Whole Cucumbers (1.5-2.5 inch diameter, 6-9 inch length; Pack date June 5, 2024) and Wiers Farm bagged Salad Cucumber (2 lb; June 5, 2024 and June 6, 2024) due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Food Safety Recall: AW Farms, LLC recalls approximately 6,900 pounds of hot dog products that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Discover Fresh Foods, LLC that a December 11, 2023, through January 22, 2024 inspection of the company’s manufacturing facility for refrigerated ready-to-eat (RTE) dips and spreads revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes , a human pathogen, in the production facility and serious violations of the Current Good Manufacturing Practice, Hazard Analysis, and Risk-Based Preventive Controls for Human Food regulation.

Pet Food Safety Recall: Vitakraft Sun Seed, Inc. recalls various Sunseed “Vita Prima” and Vitakraft “Vita Smart” hedgehog pet foods due to possible Salmonella contamination. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

Outbreak/Illness Investigations

United Kingdom (Update): The UK Health Security Agency has confirmed 13 new cases of E. coli O145 illnesses in an outbreak that has now affected 288 individuals, sending approximately one-half of the victims to hospital. Cases have been reported in England (191), Scotland (62), Wales (31) and Northern Ireland (4). The outbreak has been linked to a type of lettuce used in sandwich products.

Food Safety Recall: Al-Safa US LLC recalls Al Safa Halal Charcoal Grilled Chicken Seekh Kebab Grilled, Minced, Chicken Patty Kebab (12.1 oz; Batch 0605404; Date code NOV 30 25) and Al Safa Halal Fully Cooked Chicken Chapli Kebab Seasoned Chicken Patty (14.11 oz; Batch 0605416; Date code NOV 30 25) due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Food Safety Recall: Pastina (Gatineau, QC) recalls Pesto and Pesto aux tomates séchées / Pesto with dried tomatoes (250 ml; All units sold up to 4 July 2024) due to potential for growth of Clostridium botulinum.

Food Safety Recall (UK): AB World Foods Ltd recalls Al’Fez Natural Tahini (160g; Batch codes 3355, 4004, 4023, 4024, 4039, 4040; Best before June 2025, July 2025 and August 2025) due to Salmonella contamination.

Outbreak/Illness Investigations

Denmark: The Statens Serum Institut continues to track an outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium (sequence type 19) illnesses linked to consumption of minced beef. The outbreak has affected 64 individuals since March 2024.

USA: FDA and CDC report an increase in Salmonella Africana illnesses associated epidemiologically with consumption of whole cucumbers. Twenty-eight states and the District of Columbia have now reported a total of 196 confirmed outbreak cases; 68 of the outbreak victims have been hospitalized.

USA: FDA and CDC continue to investigate a cluster of 12 illnesses associated with consumption of Diamond Shruumz Brand Chocolate Bars, Cones & Gummies. Victims have reported a variety of severe symptoms including seizures, central nervous system depression (loss of consciousness, confusion, sleepiness), agitation, abnormal heart rates, hyper/hypotension, nausea, and vomiting.

United States

Allergy Alert: Bonneval Foods, LLC recalls BONNEVAL’S BBQ Pork Skins (1.7 oz; All lots) due to undeclared wheat and soy.

FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Midwest Foods, LLC that a December 11-13, 2023 inspection of the company’s ready-to-eat (RTE) food manufacturing facility revealed significant violations of the Acidified Foods regulation and Emergency Permit Control regulation.

Pet Treat Safety Recall: TDBBS, LLC. recalls 5,279 bags of Best brand and Barkworthies brand bully sticks due to foreign matter contamination (metal). Please refer to the Enforcement Report notice for a complete list of affected products.

Animal Feed Safety Recall: ADM Animal Nutrition recalls multiple animal feed products sold under the Grostrong, MoorMan’s, MaxLean, Roughage Buster, Pen Pals, Patriot, Goat Power, Juniorglo, Rack Plus, Seniorglo brand names due to elevated levels of magnesium, sodium, calcium, chloride and/or phosphorus in certain lots. Food Safety Recall: Les Fromages Latino Inc. recalls various brands of cheese due to Staphylococcus aureus contamination. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

Food Safety Recall: 2629073 Ontario Inc. recalls Panchvati Supermarket brand Black Pepper Powder Coarse (200g; Batch no. 12062023; UPC 1 23456 00217 3) due to foreign matter contamination (sand and dirt).
