Outbreak/Illness Investigations

USA Update: CDC and FDA report that the Salmonella outbreak linked to Pistachio Cream is over. Four cases were confirmed to be part of this two-state outbreak, and one person was hospitalized.

USA Update: CDC reports that this year’s Salmonella outbreak linked to contact with backyard poultry has grown to 429 confirmed cases in 47 states. Two people have died, and 93 have been hospitalized. The outbreak includes infections with Salmonella Anatum, Cerro, Enteritidis, Indiana, Johannesburg, London, and Mbandaka. Outbreak victims range in age from <1 to 92 years, and 21% of the victims are less than 5 years of age. The outbreak strains have been linked to four hatcheries.

United States

Food Safety Recall: Southwind Foods, LLC recalls bagged, frozen shrimp products due to possible Cesium-137 contamination.

Food Safety Recall: Sabrositos Hondurenos, LLC recalls approximately 32,000 pounds of various meat products that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection bearing labels with a false USDA mark of inspection.

Canada

Allergy Alert: Pan Asia Food Co. Ltd. recalls Daesang brand Gochujang (Spicy Red Pepper Paste (500g; Date code 2025.10.29; UPC 8 80 1052 802022) due to undeclared wheat.

Food Safety Recall Update: Boulangerie Andalos Inc. recalls Andalos brand pastry products due to Salmonella contamination.

Food Safety Recall: l’Association d’entraide pour la santé mentale « La Passerelle » (New Richmond, QC) recalls Pesto à la fleurette d’ail biologique / Organic garlic floret pesto (Sold up to 9 August 2025) due to potential for growth of Clostridium botulinum.

Outbreak/Illness Investigations

AUSTRIA Update: AGES reports 72 cases of Salmonella Enteritidis infections between December 2024 and July 2025 in eight federal states. Thirty-two people have been hospitalized. The illnesses appear to be linked to consumption of eggs and egg products.

UKRAINE: Kyiv reported a case of foodborne botulism linked to dried fish, bringing the total number of cases in Ukraine in 2025 to 57.

USA: FDA is investigating a new outbreak of five cases of Salmonella Oranienburg linked to an as yet unidentified food.

United States

Public Health Alert: FDA advises restaurants and retailers not to serve or sell and consumers not to eat certain frozen, raw, half-shell oysters from Republic of Korea potentially contaminated with Norovirus

Food Safety Recall: Goldenway Import & Export Ltd. recalls Gangrongtai (Chinese characters only) Enoki Mushroom (~200g; Date code 2025/09/20; UPC 6 972528 450008) due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Food Safety Recall: Délifruits Inc. recalls Délifruits brand and Chocofolie brand Pistachio products due to Salmonella contamination.

Food Safety Recall: KubulVan Food Ltd. recalls Pistachio kernels (Bulk; Sold from March 31, 2025 to August 13, 2025 inclusively) due to Salmonella contamination.

MEXICO: Ministry of Health investigates outbreak of acute gastrointestinal illness from E.coli linked to a contaminated spring in Veracruz. The outbreak comprises 245 illnesses; one person has died.

United States

Public Health Alert: FDA advises public not to eat, sell, or serve certain imported frozen shrimp from the Indonesian company, PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati (doing business as BMS Foods) and sold at Walmart stores in AL, AR, FL, GA, KY, LA, MO, MS, OH, OK, PA, TX, and WV due to potential for Cesium-137 (Cs-137) contamination. The implicated product is Great Value brand frozen raw shrimp (Lot codes 8005540-1, 8005538-1, and 8005539-1; Best by 3/15/2027).

Food Safety Recall: The Middlefield Original Cheese Co-Op recalls multiple varieties of cheese due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
