  • Allergy Alert: Asda withdraws Asda Great Stuff Minced Beef Hotpot (200g; all date codes), because the product contains wheat/gluten, which is mentioned on the label but not in the allergen advice box.
  • Allergy Alert (Ireland): The Food Safety Authority of Ireland warns consumers that Rose Snowcreams (300g box Family Pack box; Best before 19/11/2013) contains undeclared egg, milk, soy and nuts, and should not be consumed by individuals who are allergic or intolerant to any of those ingredients.
  • Food Safety Recall (Belgium): Carrefour alerts its customers to the recall by Jan Dupont of all lots of the following cheeses, manufactured by la Fromagerie de Jussac (France) due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination: Reflets de France Brique du Forez au lait de brebis (200g; UPC 3245390064578), Reflets de France Brique du Forez au lait de vache (200g; UPC 3245390226419), Reflets de France Brique du Forez au lait de chevre (200g; UPC 3245390064585), Carrefour Brique lait de chevre (200g; UPC 3270190215226), and Carrefour Brique lait de vache (250g; UPC 3270190215219). All recalled cheeses bear expiration dates between 28/12/12 and 19/02/13.
  • Food Safety Recall (Germany): Andechser Molkerei Scheitz GmbH recalls BIO Real Whipped Cream, 32% fat due to the presence of a small residue of a disinfectant.
  • Food Safety Recall (Greece): Lidl Hellas recalls Goldessa Cottage Cheese and Linessa Cottage Cheese (200g packs; Batch #A0068; Expiration date 17/01/2013; Manufactured by Naabtaler Milchwerke GmbH & Co.KG., Germany), due to mold growth.
  • Food Safety Recall (Scotland, UK): Snax 4 U (Glasgow) recalls all varieties of Snax 4 U branded Sandwiches, baguettes, wraps and rolls made with various fillings (Use by dates up to and including 14 January 2013), because the items were produced in premises served with a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Notice due to food hygiene contraventions involving rodent infestation.
  • Food Safety Recall (Scotland, UK): Snax 4 U (Glasgow) recalls Burns Bakers pre-packed bakery products (postcode G21 1HS on label) and Highlands Foods pre-packed bakery products (postcode G21 1HS on label), because the products were produced in premises served with a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Notice due to rodent infestation.
  • Food Safety Alert (UK): The Food Standards Agency warns the public that the following products, originating in China via The Netherlands, should not be consumed, as they are contaminated with high levels of Bacillus cereus: Koon Yick Wah Kee – Rose Bean Curd Tofu (454g; Best before 30 December 2013; Lot #023424) and Koon Yick Wah Kee – Chilli Bean Curd Tofu (454g; Best before 30 December 2013; Lot #023421). No distribution details are available.
  • Contact Lens Safety Recall (Italy): Johnson & Johnson Vision Care recalls 1-Day ACUVUE® MOIST® Contact Lenses (Lot #2054890521, 2054895620) and ACUVUE® ADVANCE® with HYDRACLEAR® Contact Lenses (Lot #B00DJPQ), due to incomplete seal welds in a limited number of packages. The weld defects could result in the loss or spillage of preservation solution in which the lenses are immersed and may compromise product sterility.
  • Food Safety Notification Update (EU #2012.1742): Bacillus cereus and high counts of yeasts in Koon Yick Wah Kee brand tofu in sesame oil with chilli in glass jar from China, via The Netherlands; distributed to Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Sweden and United Kingdom.
  • Food Safety Notification Update (EU #2012.1774): Listeria monocytogenes in various Fromagerie de Jussac goat, sheep and cow milk cheeses from France; distributed to Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, French Polynesia, Georgia, Germany, Italy, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and Vietnam.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2013.0010): Salmonella in frozen ravioli with poultry from France; distributed to Belgium and France.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2013.0011): Oxamyl in string bean from Morocco; distributed to Belgium.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2013.0013): Listeria monocytogenes in chilled smoked turkey from Belgium; distributed to Belgium and the Netherlands.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2013.0014): Salmonella in frozen minced beef from Ireland; distributed to France.

  • Food Safety Recall (Israel): Shamir Salads recalls Tahini Salad (350g; Expiry 01/18/13), Tahini Salad (700g; Expiry 02/24/13), Egg Salad (350g; Expiry 10/01/13), Tahini Salad (400g; Expiry 18/01/13), Milling (500g; Expiry 02/24/13) and Milling ‘Almost Free’ (700g; Expiry 02/24/13), due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
  • Food Safety Notification Update (EU #2012.1774): Listeria monocytogenes in various Fromagerie de Jussac goat, sheep and cow milk cheeses from France; distributed to Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, French Polynesia, Georgia, Germany, Italy, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and Vietnam.
  • Outbreak Alert (French Polynesia): Fifty-two children and two adults participating in a sailing workshop at Arue developed food poisoning after consuming sandwiches containing chicken and mayonnaise.
  • Outbreak Alert (Hong Kong): The Centre for Health Protection is investigating a suspected food poisoning outbreak involving four men and six women who became ill about 12 to 70 hours after eating at a restaurant in Happy Valley the evening of January 4th.

  • Allergy Alert: Kheybar Import and Export Ltd. recalls Pamir brand Dried Apricots (400g; UPC 4 250368 100751; Best Before 31.12.2014), due to undeclared sulphites. The recalled product was supplied to retailers in British Columbia.
  • Allergy Alert: Kasseler Food Products Inc. (Mississauga, ON) recalls Somersaults brand Cinnamon Crunch (Product of USA; 6 oz/170g and 2 oz/56g; UPC 8 98403 00227 7 and 8 98403 00228 4, respectively; Sell By 8/30/2013 or earlier), due to undeclared milk. The recalled products were distributed nationally.
  • Allergy Alert: Kassler Food Products Inc. (Mississauga, ON) recalls Somersaults brand Cinnamon Crunch (0.5 oz/14g; Product of USA; UPC 8 98403 00224 6; Sell by 8/30/2013 or earlier), due to undeclared milk. The recalled product was distributed nationally.
  • Allergy Alert: Canadian Food Inspection Agency warns individuals that Dymatize Nutrition brand Elite Gourmet Cookies & Cream Bar (85g; Product of USA; UPC 7 05016 99301 7; Best before MAY 2013 12072A) has been recalled by the Canadian importers, distributors and retailers due to undeclared peanuts. The recalled product was sold over the internet at sndcanada.com and may have been distributed through retail stores nationally. One allergic reaction has been reported.
  • Allergy Alert: Heidelberg Foods Ltd. (Est 644; St. Jacobs, ON) recalls Noah Martin’s Black Forest Salami (variable weight pkgs; sold up to and including January 11, 2013), due to undeclared mustard. Please refer to the recall notice for a list at the deli locations where this product was sold.
  • Food Safety Recall: Les Aliments Tousain Inc. recalls Dubon brand Snails From France – Very Large – 2 dozen (125g; UPC 0 60897 01545 7; Lot 72071 27.04.15), due to contamination with extraneous material (metal). The recalled product was supplied to retailers in Alberta, New Brunswick, Ontario and Quebec.
  • Outbreak Alert/Food Safety Recall: Freshpoint Toronto recalls 3/8″ Shred Iceberg/Romaine Blend (70/30), packaged for use by KFC  (6 x 2 lb; UPC 10883278082124; Lot codes 4941, 5011, 5021, 5031, 5041, 5051, 5121, 5131, 5141, 5151, 5231) and 1/4″ Shred Iceberg Lettuce, packaged for use by Taco Bell (10 x 2 lb; UPC 10883278070701; Lot codes 4941, 5011, 5021, 5031, 5041, 5051, 5111, 5121, 5131, 5141, 5151) due to contamination with E. coli O157:H7. The recalled lettuce products were supplied to KFC and Taco Bell respectively in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, and Quebec and have been linked to 26 confirmed cases of E. coli O157:H7 illnesses in Nova Scotia (10), New Brunswick (6) and Ontario (10). Eleven outbreak victims have been hospitalized, and one person has developed hemolytic uremic syndrome. Victims, who include 14 males and 12 females, range in age from two to 83 years.

The recalled product was supplied to retail food distributors in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania for distribution to retail stores in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia.
  • Allergy Alert: Southwest Ice Cream Specialties recalls ShurFine “Creamery Select” Dulce de Leche Premium Ice Cream (1.75-qt/1.66L “scround” container; UPC 015400224840; Best by Nov 8, 2014; Plant code 48-3202-F). Due to a packaging error, the cartons contain undeclared wheat, soy, and pecans as a result of the Dulce de Leche cartons having been filled with ShurFine Praline Pecan ice cream.
  • Allergy Alert: Woodstock® (Providence, RI) recalls Woodstock All Natural Tamari Almonds (7.5 oz; Best by 10/24/13; Lot 12298), because the product contains undeclared soy due to mislabeling. The recalled product was supplied to retailers in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, Wisconsin, and District of Columbia.
  • Allergy Alert: Somersault Snack Co., LLC (Sausalito, CA) recalls Somersaults Cinnamon Crunch products (All package sizes; All Sell-by dates of 8/30/2013 or earlier), due to the presence of undeclared milk. The recalled product was distributed to retailers nationwide.
  • Allergy Alert: Island Delights, Inc. (Seville, OH) recalls Maple Coconut Haystacks (various sizes; Lot 13410400.02, 13410400.04, 13410400.08 and 13410402.00) Chocolate/Almond Coconut Haystacks (various sizes; Lot 13413100.02, 13413100.04, 13413100.08 and 13413102.00), Coffee Coconut Haystacks (various sizes; Lot 13411300.02, 13411300.04, and 13411300.08) and Almond Coconut Haystacks (various sizes; Lot 13413000.02, 13413000.04, 13413000.08 and 13413002.00), because the products contain undeclared milk.   • Food Safety Recall: GIANT Food Stores, LLC and MARTIN’S Food Markets alert their customers to the recall by Ocean Beauty Seafoods LLC of all Sell-By dates of the following products due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenesNathan’s Nova Salmon (3 o.z.; UPC 7303080368), Nathan’s Nova Salmon (8 o.z.; UPC 7303080369), and Lassco Smoked Salmon (3 o.z.; UPC 7284001703).
  • Food Safety Recall: Sister Sara’s (Pleasanton, CA) recalls Sister Sara’s Good For You Soup (1-qt/32-oz glass jar), Sister Sara’s Bread and Butter Pickles (1-pt/16-oz glass jar), Sister Sara’s Pickled Beets (1-pt/16-oz glass jar) and Sister Sara’s Old Fashioned Dill Pickles (half-gallon/64-oz glass jar), due to possible Clostridium botulinum contamination as a result of having possibly been improperly produced. The recalled products were sold at the Pleasanton Farmers Market (Pleasanton, CA) and the Livermore Certified Farmers Market (Livermore, CA).
  • Pet Treat Safety Recall: Publix Super Markets recalls Publix Chicken Tenders Dog Chew Treats (3,5-oz bag; UPC 41415-18527), because the product may contain trace amounts of antibiotic residue. The recalled product was sold in Publix grocery stores in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee.
  • Pet Treat Safety Recall: Milo’s Kitchen® recalls Chicken Jerky Home-Style Dog Treats and Chicken Grillers Home-Style Dog Treats, after trace amounts of residual antibiotics were detected by the New York State Department of Agriculture in several lots of Milo’s Kitchen® Chicken Jerky. Both of the recalled products are sourced from the same chicken suppliers.
  • Pet Treat Safety Withdrawal: Nestlé Purina PetCare Company and its wholly owned subsidiary Waggin’ Train LLC withdraw Waggin’ Train and Canyon Creek Ranch brand dog treats sold nationwide in the United States until further notice. The action was taken after the New York State Department of Agriculture detected trace amounts of antibiotic residue in samples of the chicken jerky treats.
  • Pet Treat Safety Recall: Wegmans alerts its customers to the recall by IMS Pet Industries of Cadet Gourmet Chicken Sausage (8 oz; UPC 7-68303-07461), due to test results that showed trace amounts of antibiotic residue in the treats.
  • Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall: Mobius Therapeutics, LLC (St. Louis, MO) recalls Mitosol® (mitomycin for solution) Kit for Ophthalmic Use (0.2mg/vial; Lot #M098260 and M086920; Expiration Date 08/2013), because one or more parts of the kit may contain be contaminated with a strain of yeast. The recalled products were distributed between 10/22/2012 and 12/14/2012 in Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin.
  • Outbreak Alert (Missouri): The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services reports several cases of diarrhea that may be due to Shigatoxin-producing Escherichia coli. One person has been confirmed to be infected with E. coli O103. The illnesses were reported in the northwest part of Missouri and may be related to the consumption of locally produced unpasteurized dairy products.
  • Outbreak Alert (Cruise ships): The CDC is investigating outbreaks of gastroenteritis among passengers and crew members of the Emerald Princess (Princess Cruises; voyage dates Dec 17-27, 2012) and Queen Mary 2 (Cunard Line; voyage dates Dec 22, 2012 to Jan 3, 2013). The causative agent has not yet been determined in either case.
  • Outbreak Alert Update: CDC reports that 16 persons from seven states have been infected with Salmonella Typhimurium after coming into contact with pet hedgehogs purchased from multiple breeders in different states. Three people have been hospitalized. The outbreak, which began in December 2011, has affected people in Alabama (1), Indiana (1), Michigan (3), Minnesota (2), Ohio (2), Oregon (1) and Washington (6).
