United States

Allergy Alert: Mountain View Packaging, LLC recalls @ease Sweet Chili Chicken Meal Starter; fully-cooked, boneless, battered white meat chicken in a sweet chili sauce (18-oz pkgs; Best by 5/17/2018; UPC 36800-38348) due to undeclared wheat, egg and milk.

Allergy Alert: King’s Pastry Canada (Ontario, Canada) recalls various cakes due to undeclared hazelnuts. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of recalled items.

Allergy Alert: Chip’n Dipped expands its earlier recall to include seven additional varieties of dark chocolate bars due to undeclared milk. The recalled products were distributed to seven retail stores in New York, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts.

Allergy Alert: Athens Baking Company, Inc. recalls Trader Joe’s Harvest Whole Wheat Bread (SKU 00132; Best by 01/08/17 through 01/27/17) due to undeclared milk. The recalled product was sold only at Trader Joe’s stores in Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah.

Allergy Alert: Specialty Commodities, Inc. recalls dry roasted almonds (distributed between Dec 22, 2016 and Jan 19, 2017 to three customers, one of whom redistributed them for sale in either bulk bins or clam shells to retail outlets in California, including Safeway and Nugget Markets), because the almonds may contain undeclared cashews.

Food Safety Recall: Hans Kissle Company, LLC recalls Roche brand R Kitchen Sweet & Sour Chicken and R Kitchen General Tso’s Chicken (16-oz lidded microwavable ready-to eat chicken bowls; produced on various dates from Dec 1, 2016 through Jan 16, 2017), due to a potential process defect that could allow potential survival of bacterial pathogens. The recalled products were supplied to the Roche grocery store chain in the Boston area.

Food Safety Recall: Lunds & Byerlys recalls all Lunds & Byerlys brand Our Produce Fresh-Cut Cored Pineapple (expiration on or before January 20, 2017) because of a potential Listeria risk.

Food Safety Recall: Sierra Nevada Brewing Company recalls select 12-oz bottles of Ale after quality inspections at the company’s Mills River, North Carolina, brewery detected a very limited number of bottles with a flaw that may result in loss of carbonation and a small piece of glass to break off and possibly fall into the bottle. The recalled products were available for purchase in the Midwest, Southern and East Coast states of AL, AR, CT, DC, DE, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, VA, VT, WI and WV at the following retailers: Copps, Giant, Mariano’s, Metro Market, Pick ‘n Save, Price Chopper, Publix, RiteAid, Schnucks, Stop&Shop, Trader Joe’s, and WinCo.

Food Recall: Land O’ Frost (Searcy, AR) recalls Canadian Bacon (6 oz.; Lot #570120407) due to use of an incorrect mineral oil as a processing aid. The recalled item was sold at WinCo and may also have been sold at other retail outlets.

Food Recall: Land O’ Frost recalls four varieties of Land O’ Frost brand sandwich meats sold at Food City. The recalled items include Sub Sandwich Kit Ham & Turkey, Bistro Rotisserie Turkey, Premium Tuscan Seasoned Turkey Breast and Premium Beef. No further details have been given.

Food Safety Notification: The Alabama Department of Public Health announces that Darvin McDaniel of Indelible Catering (Moulton, AL) has surrendered its food service permit and is not authorized to prepare food for catering in the state. The action follows a November 2016 Salmonella enteritidis outbreak in Sheffield, AL in which ‘dozens’ of persons became ill.

Pet Food News (Maryland): The Maryland Department of Agriculture has proposed new regulations to establish requirements for registering pet food and specialty pet food prior t distribution in Maryland. The regulations address labeling requirements, dietary requirements, nutrient profiles and other related requirements. Please refer to the proposed regulations for details. A public hearing is scheduled for February 13, 2017 in Annapolis.

Canada

Outbreak Alert (Ontario): According to a CBC News report, an outbreak of gastrointestinal illness has affected nearly 200 people at Humber College’s north campus. One person was admitted to hospital, but has since been released. The symptoms are consistent with person-to-person virus transmission. The cause has not yet been determined.

Europe

Allergy Alert (Czech Republic): Vitana advises consumers that J.C. Horn brand Cumin (Best by date to 8.3.2018) may contain trace amounts of undeclared mustard.

Allergy Alert (Germany): Kaufland Warenhandel GmbH & Co. KG recalls Exquisit Macaron Selection, französisches Mandelgebäck (125g) due to possible presence of undeclared peanut.

Allergy Alert (Luxembourg): Luxembourg’s food safety authorities report a recall of Lenny & Larry’s Complete Cookie Chocolate Chip (Best by 01/07/2017 to 30/11/2017; manufactured in USA) due to undeclared dairy products.

Allergy Alert (UK): B&M recalls Mini Cream 10 Pack Biscuits (35g pack size; Net wt. 350g; Use by 15/05/2017; Lot #01) due to incorrect allergy labeling. The recalled biscuits contain undeclared wheat, milk, soya and sulphites.

Food Safety Alert Update (UK): The Food Standards Agency warns consumers not to eat a number of products supplied by MDA Products Ltd., as the products have been repackaged in an unapproved premises and are therefore potentially unsafe. The original alert has been amended to update the list of affected products.

Food Safety Recall (Germany): Arrow Global GmbH recalls Fueru Wakame Seetang (seaweed), because following the portion size recommendation indicated on the label would result in excessive consumption of iodine.

Food Safety Recall (Germany): Antonio Viani Importe GmbH recalls Oliveri Funghi Porcini Secchi dried mushrooms (50g; Expiry date 15.12.2017) due to possible Salmonella contamination.

Food Safety Recall (UK): Clayton Park recalls Twin Packed Cream Cakes (Best before 18 February 2017), due to incorrect date marking.

Food Safety Recall (UK): Thorntons recalls Hollow Milk Chocolate Jolly Santa (200g; All batch codes), because the product may contain a piece of plastic, which could pose a safety risk. The recalled products were distributed in Canada, Denmark, Ireland, Malta, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands

Outbreak Alert (Hong Kong): The Centre for Health Protection is investigating an outbreak of acute gastroenteritis affecting 13 students and 7 staff members in a special school in Sham Shui Po.

Outbreak Alert (Hong Kong): The Centre for Health Protection is investigating an outbreak of acute gastroenteritis affecting 21 boys in a primary school in Wan Chai.

Food Safety Action (Israel): Approximately 2.5 tons of chicken were destroyed following an inspection at the Shawarma Hatzafon manufacturing facility in Dir-El-Asad, after an inspection revealed improper conduct at the factory, including poor sanitary conditions.

Food Safety Action (Israel): An inspection of Gidi-Yon banquet and meeting halls uncovered poor sanitary conditions, leading to the destruction of ~350 kg of food products.

Australia and New Zealand

Allergy Alert (Australia): Peanut Company of Australia Limited recalls Picky Picky Peanuts Mexican Salsa Peanuts (80g flexible plastic pack; Best before JUL2017) due to the presence of undeclared milk. Please refer to the recall notice for distribution details.

Food Safety Recall (New Zealand): Several companies have recalled products containing milk powder that was manufactured as per regulatory requirements, but for which regulatory requirements were not met during subsequent distribution of the powder. Companies issuing recall notices are: YogurtNMore Ltd., Get Fresh Vege & Spices Ltd., Indo Spice World Ltd., Village Style Food Ltd., and Marpen Trade Ltd. Allergy Alert: D.F. Stauffer Biscuit Co., Inc. recalls Original Animal Crackers (32 oz.; Best by 07SEP17; Case lot #L120716), because they may be packaged with other cookies that contain milk powder.

Allergy Alert: Burger’s Ozark Country Cured recalls Harry & David Ready to Heat Fully Cooked Turkey without Giblets (Case code V20HD2MV; Lot numbers 3276 and 3286) due to incorrect labeling. The mislabeled product contains undeclared sodium nitrite.

Allergy Alert: Willow Tree Poultry Farm, Inc. recalls Whole Foods Market Chicken Salad (6 oz. pkg; Sell by 1/24/2017), because the product containers actually contain an egg salad product.

Food Safety Recall: Olymel S.E.C./L.P. (Boucherville, QC) recalls pork rib tips (10-lb & 30-lb cardboard boxes; packaging date Jan 10-13, 2017) because the products were repacked and distributed without the benefit of federal inspection.

Pet Food Safety Recall: Blue Ridge Beef recalls Turkey with bone (2 lb. chub; Lot #103 mfd 12716) due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The affected products were distributed to retail stores in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.

Canada

Allergy Recall: McCain Foods (Canada) recalls Wong Wing brand Vegetable Spring Rolls (545g; Code T160913A) due to undeclared soy. The product was distributed in Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec.

Europe

Allergy Alert (Germany): Herzberger Bakery recalls “Bio Fitnesstange” bread due to accidental mislabelling.

Allergy Alert (UK): Tesco recalls Tesco Takeaway Butter Chicken (385g pkg; Batch codes L014K and L015K; Use by dates 24/01/2017 and 25/01/2017) because the sauce contains undeclared cashew nuts.

Allergy Alert (UK): Windmill Organics Ltd. recalls Pro Fusion Organic Cacao Nibs Cashew Butter (250g; Best before 30/09/2018; Batch code L15259) because the level of peanut found in this product is above that suggested on the label.

Food Safety Recall (Germany): Kaufland Warenhandel GmbH & Co KG recalls K-Classic Sour Cherries (350g and 680g containers; Expiry date 04.07.2019 ES211) due to the presence of glass fragments.

Food Safety Recall (Hong Kong): Michael Wah Hing Co Ltd recalls Tsin Tsu Wei brand Sichuan Soya Beancurd with Chili & Sesame Oil (130g; Best before August 23, 2019) due to Bacillus cereus contamination.

Food Poisoning Investigation (Hong Kong): The Centre for Health Protection is investigating two suspected food poisoning clusters affecting 14 persons. All of the affected individuals ate a meal at the same (unnamed) food premises in Causeway Bay.

Food Safety Recall (Israel): Supersol recalls Frozen Green Peas & Carrots (Product code 7294073224907; manufactured in Belgium by Ardo) due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Australia and New Zealand

Food Safety Recall (Australia): George Weston Foods recalls various brands of garlic bread due to the presence of plastic pieces. The garlic bread was sold at Woolworths, Aldi, FoodWorks, Foodland, IGA and independent stores across Australia.

Food Safety Recall (Australia): Target Australia Pty Ltd. recalls Christmas Sprinkles Cookie Mix with a Mason Jar and Triple Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix with a Mason Jar (530g; Best before 20 June 2017; imported from China) due to insect contamination.

Allergy Alert: Perfect Fit Meals (Houston, Texas) recalls approximately 3,546 pounds of From the Kitchen of Cooking Light Magazine: Lemon Pepper Chicken” with “Use or Freeze By” date of 01/21/17 and lot code 2457744.2 due to misbranding and the possible presence of undeclared milk and wheat.

Allergy Alert: Chip’n Dipped (Huntington, NY) recalls its 2.9-oz. bar, Dark Chocolate Crunch bars (lot numbers are 1100506, 1100483 and 1100524) because they may contain undeclared milk.

Allergy Alert: Golden Flake Snack Foods, Inc. recalls HOT Thin & Crispy Potato Chips (5-oz pkg; Best if used by APR 1417; Lot codes 364 5 and 365 5) because the product may contain undeclared milk and other dairy ingredients.

Food Safety Recall: Tupperware U.S., Inc. (Orlando, FL) recalls LOT #16189305 of Southwest Chipotle Seasoning, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella

Food Safety Recall: Dutch Valley Food Distributors, Inc. (Myerstown, PA) recalls Cappuccino Snack Mix (Lot code 20161027; Best by 5/25/17) due to possible contamination with Salmonella. The product is distributed in ten pound bulk cases (two 5-lb bags/case).

Food Safety Recall: Hy-Vee, Inc. (West Des Moines, IA) recalls several candy trays containing products manufactured by Palmer Candy Company between Oct. 20, 2016 and Dec. 9, 2016 due to potential contamination with Salmonella. Food Safety Recall: In cooperation with Palmer Candy Company, Albertsons and Tom Thumb stores in TexasLouisiana and Arkansas are voluntarily recalling five candy products made with milk powder produced by Valley Milk Products LLC, because of potential Salmonella contamination. Food Safety Recall: The Pictsweet Company recalls Picktsweet Farms Crunchy Breaded Okra (12-oz pkgs; UPC 0 70560 98377 8; Best if used by Nov 3, 2018; Production codes 3086B C, 3086B D, 3086B E, 3086B F, or 3086B G), because some packages may contain glass fragments. There has been one minor injury in connection with this issue.

Animal Feed Safety Recall: Grange Co-Op recalls Rogue All-Purpose Rabbit Pellets sold in Southern Oregon and Northern California after testing by the Oregon Department of Agriculture revealed that the product may contain higher than acceptable levels of vitamin D.

Canada

Outbreak Alert: The Public Health Agency of Canada is investigating 12 reported cases of E. coli O121 illnesses: 4 cases each in Newfoundland and Labrador, British Columbia and Saskatchewan. The illnesses occurred in November and December 2016. Four people were hospitalized, but all have recovered or are recovering. The source of the outbreak is still under investigation.

Outbreak Alert (British Columbia): The BC Center for Disease Control (BCCDC) has received more than 70 reports of oyster-related gastrointestinal illnesses since early December 2016. The outbreak is ongoing. Norovirus is the confirmed cause in several cases. BCCDC urges that oysters be cooked thoroughly, to an internal temperature of 90ºC for 90 seconds in order to inactivate norovirus and other microbes.

Allergy Alert: Vanworld International Investment (Canada) Ltd. recalls Vanworld brand Glutinous Rice Balls (Black Sesame Filling; 400g; Product code 01 06 2018; UPC 6 66872 76009 3) due to undeclared peanuts.

Europe

Allergy Alert (Ireland): Lenny & Larry’s Inc. recalls The Complete Cookie Chocolate Chip product (113g pkg; All best before dates from 01/07/2017 up to and including 30/11/2017) due to undeclared milk.

Allergy Alert (UK): Morrisons recalls certain batches of Morrisons Market Street Assorted Party Cupcakes because they contain cereals containing gluten (wheat, barley, rye, oats), milk, egg, soya and fish which are not mentioned on the label. Food Safety Alert (UK): The Food Standards Agency warns consumers not to eat a number of food products, mainly frozen fish and chicken, supplied by MDA Products Ltd. The products have been repackaged in an unapproved premises and are therefore potentially unsafe. Please refer to the Agency’s notice for detailed information.

Consumer Product Recall (Belgium, Luxembourg): A number of kitchen utensils manufactured in China have been recalled due to migration of aromatic amines in excess of the legal limit. Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands

Food Safety Alert (Hong Kong): The Centre for Food Safety announces that the import into and sale within Hong Kong of all raw oysters produced by Dungarvan Shellfish Ltd in Ireland or those harvested in Dungarvan Bay (harvest location code: WD-DB-DN) in the country, have been prohibited with immediate effect, due to the risk of norovirus contamination.

Australia and New Zealand

Allergy Alert (Australia): Asahi Premium Beverages Pty Ltd. recalls The Cider Lab Pink Lady Apple, Royal Gala Apple and Packham Pear Cider beverages due to undeclared sulphites. The beverages were sold from liquor stores and licensed premises nationwide.
