Recalls and Alerts: January 11 – 14, 2017

United States

Allergy Alert: Perfect Fit Meals (Houston, Texas) recalls approximately 3,546 pounds of From the Kitchen of Cooking Light Magazine: Lemon Pepper Chicken” with “Use or Freeze By” date of 01/21/17 and lot code 2457744.2 due to misbranding and the possible presence of undeclared milk and wheat.

Allergy Alert: Chip’n Dipped (Huntington, NY) recalls its 2.9-oz. bar, Dark Chocolate Crunch bars (lot numbers are 1100506, 1100483 and 1100524) because they may contain undeclared milk.

Allergy Alert: Golden Flake Snack Foods, Inc. recalls HOT Thin & Crispy Potato Chips (5-oz pkg; Best if used by APR 1417; Lot codes 364 5 and 365 5) because the product may contain undeclared milk and other dairy ingredients.

Food Safety Recall: Tupperware U.S., Inc. (Orlando, FL) recalls LOT #16189305 of Southwest Chipotle Seasoning, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella

Food Safety Recall: Dutch Valley Food Distributors, Inc. (Myerstown, PA) recalls Cappuccino Snack Mix (Lot code 20161027; Best by 5/25/17) due to possible contamination with Salmonella. The product is distributed in ten pound bulk cases (two 5-lb bags/case).

Food Safety Recall: Hy-Vee, Inc. (West Des Moines, IA) recalls several candy trays containing products manufactured by Palmer Candy Company between Oct. 20, 2016 and Dec. 9, 2016 due to potential contamination with Salmonella. Food Safety Recall: In cooperation with Palmer Candy Company, Albertsons and Tom Thumb stores in TexasLouisiana and Arkansas are voluntarily recalling five candy products made with milk powder produced by Valley Milk Products LLC, because of potential Salmonella contamination. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

Food Safety Recall: The Pictsweet Company recalls Picktsweet Farms Crunchy Breaded Okra (12-oz pkgs; UPC 0 70560 98377 8; Best if used by Nov 3, 2018; Production codes 3086B C, 3086B D, 3086B E, 3086B F, or 3086B G), because some packages may contain glass fragments. There has been one minor injury in connection with this issue.

Animal Feed Safety Recall: Grange Co-Op recalls Rogue All-Purpose Rabbit Pellets sold in Southern Oregon and Northern California after testing by the Oregon Department of Agriculture revealed that the product may contain higher than acceptable levels of vitamin D.

Canada

Outbreak Alert: The Public Health Agency of Canada is investigating 12 reported cases of E. coli O121 illnesses: 4 cases each in Newfoundland and Labrador, British Columbia and Saskatchewan. The illnesses occurred in November and December 2016. Four people were hospitalized, but all have recovered or are recovering. The source of the outbreak is still under investigation.

Outbreak Alert (British Columbia): The BC Center for Disease Control (BCCDC) has received more than 70 reports of oyster-related gastrointestinal illnesses since early December 2016. The outbreak is ongoing. Norovirus is the confirmed cause in several cases. BCCDC urges that oysters be cooked thoroughly, to an internal temperature of 90ºC for 90 seconds in order to inactivate norovirus and other microbes.

Allergy Alert: Vanworld International Investment (Canada) Ltd. recalls Vanworld brand Glutinous Rice Balls (Black Sesame Filling; 400g; Product code 01 06 2018; UPC 6 66872 76009 3) due to undeclared peanuts.

Europe

Allergy Alert (Ireland): Lenny & Larry’s Inc. recalls The Complete Cookie Chocolate Chip product (113g pkg; All best before dates from 01/07/2017 up to and including 30/11/2017) due to undeclared milk.

Allergy Alert (UK): Morrisons recalls certain batches of Morrisons Market Street Assorted Party Cupcakes because they contain cereals containing gluten (wheat, barley, rye, oats), milk, egg, soya and fish which are not mentioned on the label. Please refer to the Food Standards Agency notice for details.

Food Safety Alert (UK): The Food Standards Agency warns consumers not to eat a number of food products, mainly frozen fish and chicken, supplied by MDA Products Ltd. The products have been repackaged in an unapproved premises and are therefore potentially unsafe. Please refer to the Agency’s notice for detailed information.

Consumer Product Recall (Belgium, Luxembourg): A number of kitchen utensils manufactured in China have been recalled due to migration of aromatic amines in excess of the legal limit. The products were distributed in Belgium and Luxembourg. Please refer to the Luxembourg recall notice for a detailed list of affected products.

Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands

Food Safety Alert (Hong Kong): The Centre for Food Safety announces that the import into and sale within Hong Kong of all raw oysters produced by Dungarvan Shellfish Ltd in Ireland or those harvested in Dungarvan Bay (harvest location code: WD-DB-DN) in the country, have been prohibited with immediate effect, due to the risk of norovirus contamination.

Australia and New Zealand

Allergy Alert (Australia): Asahi Premium Beverages Pty Ltd. recalls The Cider Lab Pink Lady Apple, Royal Gala Apple and Packham Pear Cider beverages due to undeclared sulphites. The beverages were sold from liquor stores and licensed premises nationwide.
