  • Allergy Alert (Retail Distribution): USDA posts retail distribution list for red meat jerky products recalled by Old World Meats (Duluth, MN) due to undeclared soy, wheat and milk.
  • Food Safety Recall: Sugar Valley Meats LLC (Sugarcreek, OH) recalls wieners, beef wieners and small links smoked sausages (Ohio Dept. of Agriculture Est. 165; sold through Sugar Valley’s retail store from February 23rd through March 15th), due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
  • Food Safety Recall: Price Chopper announces recall of Clear Value Creamy Milk Chocolate Frosting, 16 oz. (UPC 36800-30133) due to mold contamination.
  • Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall: American Regent Inc. recalls Concentrated Sodium Chloride Injection, USP, 23.4%, 30 mL Single Dose Vials and 100 mL Pharmacy Bulk Packs (see recall notice for affected lot codes) due to the presence of visible particulates in some vials.
  • Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall: American Regent Inc. recalls Bacteriostatic Sodium Chloride Injection, USP, 0.9%30 mL Multiple Dose Vials (Lot #9330, 9599 and 9828), due to the presence of visible particulates in some vials.
  • OTC Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall: H&P Industries recalls all lots of Povidine Prep Pads, manufactured by H&P and sold under the Cardinal Health, Medical Specialties, VHA, Triad, Triad Plus, North Safety, and Total Resources private label brand names, as some of the pads have been found to be contaminated with Elizabethkingia meningoseptica bacteria. Use of contaminated Povidine Prep Pads could lead to life-threatening infections, especially in at risk populations, including neonates, immune suppressed patients, and surgical patients.

Canada

  • Allergy Alert: Boucherie chez Manon (Saguenay, QC) recalls several ready-to-eat entrées (see recall notice for detailed list) due to the presence of undeclared milk and/or eggs.
  • Allergy Alert: Transhing Investment Inc. recalls Kim Tu Thap Sriracha Chili Sauce (TS12-01-08-EXP11; EXP DEC-01-2011) due to the presence of undeclared sulphites.
  • Allergy Alert: Transhing Investment Inc. recalls Kim Tu Thap Sriracha Chili Sauce (TS12-16-08EXP2011/B; EXP DEC-16-2011), due to the presence of undeclared sulphites.
  • Food Safety Recall: CGBI (Ajax, ON) recalls Jump 6 brand Strawberry Flavour Whey Protein (30g pouches; Codes 12.12 and 03364), due to possible Salmonella contamination. The recalled product was distributed to CGBI clients in Ontario
  • Food Safety Recall: Costco Wholesale Canada Ltd. recalls Kirkland Signature Date Nut Loaves (Costco Item #110382; sold between February 5th and March 15th, 2011 inclusive), because the product may contain pieces of finishing nails.

Europe

  • Food Safety Recall (Luxembourg): Milupa recalls certain Aptamil and Milumil powdered milks due to excessive levels of certain vitamins and minerals. If these products are consumed by infants, there is a risk of constipation and, in more severe cases, vomiting and diarrhea. Please refer to the recall notice for details.
  • Food Safety Recall (Denmark): Urtekram International Inc. recalls Urtekram organic green lentils and Anglamark organic green lentils due to residues of the pesticide Glyphosate.

Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands

  • Herbal Medicine Safety Recall (Hong Kong and Macao): Hong Kong Department of Health warns the public not to buy or use a proprietary Chinese medicine named Pink Point Sexual capsule (HKP-02146), as it was found by the Macao authority to have excessive lead during its market surveillance. The product is manufactured by a Hong Kong licensed Chinese medicines manufacturer, CHEONG CHUN TONG FTY. HONG KONG, for use by males with sexual dysfunction.

Australia and New Zealand

  • Chinese Herbal Product Safety Alert (Australia): Satibo capsules, advertised and sold over the Internet as an “All natural Chinese herbal formula” have been found to contain therapeutic quantities of tadalafil and hydroxyhomosildenafil (a derivative of sildenafil), both of which are prescription drugs used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction.

  • Allergy Alert: Old World Meats (Duluth, MN) recalls approximately 83 pounds of individually packaged hot and teriyaki-flavored red meat jerky products because they contain soy, wheat and milk that are not noted on the label.
  • Allergy Alert: Monogram Meat Snacks, LLC (Chandler, MN) recalls approximately 5,125 pounds of Hannah’s Honey Cured Turkey Sticks because they contain undeclared wheat.
  • Allergy Alert: Yamaya USA, Inc. (Torrance, CA) recalls approximately 612 pounds of pork loin cutlet fritter products because they contain monosodium glutamate (MSG) which is not declared on the label.
  • Allergy Alert: Faribault Foods, Inc. (Faribault, MN) recalls Field Day Organic Garbanzo Beans because some cans with this label may contain Minestrone soup. The Minestrone soup contains wheat, milk, soy and egg, which are not listed on the label of the mis-identified product.
  • Food Safety Recall: Vitalabs, Inc. (Jonesboro, GA) recalls Vanilla Whey Isolate (Lot #3473 and 0131), Chocolate Whey Isolate (Lot #3477) and Strawberry Whey Isolate (Lot #3364) due to possible Salmonella contamination. The affected products were offered under the following brand names: Donne Hale’s, Dr. Bill’s Choice, HCG Buy Direct, The Healthy Way, Innovative Nutra Labs Nutrapure, Iron Mag Labs, Len Rossi’s, Lifestyle Perfect Protein, Nature’s Pantry, Northeast Ohio Endocrinology, Nutrition World Ultra, Peachtree Natural Foods, Sharp Labs G Booster Plus, SouthFit Supplements, Susan’s Essential Formulas, Team Kattouf, This Is Bio Shape Shake, Trainer’s Choice, Unlimited Nutrition Athletic Protein, Vitalabs Inc. Ultra, X3 Nutrition X3, and YourHCG.Com.
  • Food Safety Recall: Nestle Prepared Foods Company (Gaffney, SC) recalls approximately 10,260 pounds of frozen spaghetti and meatball entrees that may contain foreign materials. The products were packaged on Oct. 25, 2010, and shipped to distributors and retail stores east of the Rocky Mountains.
  • Food Safety Recall: Oak Farms Dairy (Waco, TX) recalls half-gallon plastic bottles of whole chocolate milk, half-pint paper cartons of whole chocolate milk, and half-pint paper cartons of 1% chocolate milk due to the presence of Alkaline Phosphatase found in samples during routine testing.
  • Food Safety Recall: Pierre Foods recalls Pierre™ pb jamwich crustless peanut butter and strawberry jam sandwiches, because of possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The sandwiches were distributed to Giant-Carlisle stores in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.
  • Food Safety Recall: D&M Smoked Fish, Inc. (Queens, NY) recalls Haifa brand Schmaltz Herring (Lot #51) and Cold Smoked Sprats (Lot #54), because the products were found to be uneviscerated. The sale of uneviscerated fish is prohibited in New York State due to the heightened risk of Clostridium botulinum spores.
  • Food Safety Recall: ONE World Enterprises, LLC recalls O.N.E. Coconut Water, (11.2 oz Tetra Pak cartons; Lot code 12E1004; UPC # 894991001104; Sell-by date of May 1, 2011), due to the potential oxidation of the product that may permit the growth of mold. The affected product was distributed to various retail outlets in Florida, Georgia, Indiana, New York, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

Canada

  • Allergy Alert: Sea-Ray Seafood Inc. (St-Laurent, QC) recalls Lightly Breaded and Seasoned Calamari (908g packages; Plant 3700/02925; Production 283/10; Lot No. 10101010040H4. The recalled product was distributed in Québec.
  • Allergy Alert: Transhing Investment Inc. recalls Sriracha Chili Sauce (794g; Code TS12-16-08EXP2011/B; EXP DEC-16-2011) due to the presence of undeclared sulphites. The recalled product was distributed in Ontario.
  • Allergy Alert: Thrifty Foods (Broadmead) recalls Thrifty Foods “GREEK JUMBO OLIVES STUFFED W/ GARLIC” (PACKAGE CONTAINS GREEK OLIVES STUFFED W/ ALMOND), due to the presence of undeclared nuts. The recalled product was distributed in British Columbia.
  • Allergy Alert: Sobeys Inc. recalls Compliments Sensations Uncooked Butterfly Breaded Shrimp (340g; Best before 2011 NO 30) due to the presence of undeclared coconut. The recalled product was distributed to New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, and Quebec.
  • Allergy Alert: Metro Richelieu inc. recalls various products due to the presence of undeclared soy, wheat, egg, peanuts, nuts and/or sesame seeds.
  • Food Safety Recall: Vitalabs, Inc. (Jonesboro, GA) recalls Vanilla Whey Isolate (Lot #3473 and 0131), Chocolate Whey Isolate (Lot #3477) and Strawberry Whey Isolate (Lot #3364) due to possible Salmonella contamination.   • Food Safety Recall (Expanded): David’s Tea (Montreal, QC) recalls Peppermint Amour (Organic) Herb Tea, and Organic Peppermint Amour, because the herbal tea may be contaminated with Salmonella. The affected teas have been recalled in the USA by Aromatics Inc. and were distributed nationally in Canada.

  • Allergy Alert (UK): Wm Morrison Supermarkets PLC recalls Morrisons Cocktail Prawns (95g; Use by 16 March 2011) due to the presence of undeclared fish, gluten, mollusc and soy.
  • Food Safety Recall (France): Saupiquet recalls Saupiquet Sardines in Extra-Virgin Olive Oil (Lot #MA1653), due to the presence of histamine.

Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands

  • Chinese Herbal Medicine Safety Recall (Hong Kong): The Department of Health warns the public not to take the Chinese herb labeled as Flos Campsis, purchased from Fu Hong Medicine Co., because the herb may actually be the toxic herb Flos Daturae Metelis.

Australia and New Zealand

  • Food Safety Recall (Australia): Lumsden Health Products recalls The Latin Seed Weight Loss Product (Product of Brazil; all best before dates), due to incorrect labeling. The packages may contain the poisonous seed of Yellow Oleander instead of candlenuts. The recalled product was imported from Bolivia and distributed across Australia.

  • Food Safety Recall (Denmark): A Frost A/S recalls Julius Traditional Duck Breast and Julius Roast Duck Breast due to Salmonella contamination in the batch of duck breast used to prepare the two dishes.
  • Food Safety Recall (Denmark): Fruit Europe ApS recalls Mangetout brand Sweet Peas (Product of Kenya) due to pesticide residues in the product.
  • Food Safety Recall (Ireland): Baxters Food Group recalls Baxters Favourites Chicken Broth canned soup, 415g (Batch code L121G (1653, 1654 and 1655 only); Best before end JUL 2013) due to under-processing which has led to microbial spoilage of the soup.
  • Food Withdrawal (UK and Ireland): GlaxoSmithKline withdraws all bottles of Lucozade Sport Lite Summer Berries, because some of the drinks may have an unpleasant smell and taste.

  • Animal Food Safety Recall (Singapore): Silversky Pte Ltd recalls Wellness® Canned Cat food (All flavors and sizes; Best by 14-Apr-10 to 30-Sep 13) and Wellness® Canned Cat Chicken & Herring (All sizes; Best by 10 Nov 13 to 17 Nov 13), after the US manufacturer (WellPet) recalls the products due to a deficiency of thiamine.
  • Dietary Supplement Safety Alert (Hong Kong): The Department of Health warns the public not to buy or use a slimming product called “Slimming Kapsul”, which was found to contain a banned Western drug ingredient sibutramine and another drug ingredient spironolactone that may cause serious side effects.
  • Unregistered Drug Recall (Hong Kong): The Department of Health warns the public not to buy or use two orally consumed commercial products targeted at male consumers, one called Venergy and another a Chinese medicine named Gold Seagull Long Zhi Wan, as they were each found to contain a potent unregistered western drug, respectively sildenafil and glibenclamide. Venergy was imported from Malaysia, and Gold Seagull Long Zhi Wan was imported from Mainland China.
  • Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall (Hong Kong): GlaxoSmithKline Ltd recalls 144 units of three of its vaccines because of a suspected quality defect.

Australia and New Zealand

  • Food Safety Recall (Australia): Huon Aquaculture Group Pty Ltd recalls several varieties of Smoked Salmon (Use by date: 24 03 11) that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled products were sold at Woolworths, Coles, and Franklins stores as well as seafood chains and seafood wholesalers across Australia.
  • Food Safety Recall (Australia): Jacobs Well Egg Farm recalls Jacobs Well Egg Farm Cage Eggs (500g, 600g, 700g, 800g cartons; Best Before 2/3/2011), due to possible Salmonella contamination. The recalled eggs were sold at Rocklea markets, IGA stores and corner stores in South-East Queensland.

Latin America and the Caribbean

  • Food Safety Recall (Aruba): Vitalabs, Inc. (Jonesboro, GA) recalls Whey-26 Protein Powder (Vanilla Whey Isolate Lot No. 3473 & 0131; Chocolate Whey Isolate Lot No. 3477; Strawberry Whey Isolate Lot No. 3364), due to possible contamination with Salmonella. The recalled products were available in Aruba through health food stores, clinics, fitness centers and internet-based companies.
