Outbreak/Illness Investigations

SPAIN: The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) reports five confirmed cases of Salmonella Enteritidis linked to consumption of Formatgeria Mas d’Eroles brand soft cheese made with raw sheep’s milk. The outbreak strain has been recovered from a sample of the cheese.

USA (Update): FDA reports that a second cucumber grower, Thomas Produce Company, has been linked to an outbreak of Salmonella Braenderup in 31 states and the District of Columbia. The outbreak strain was recovered from a sample of canal water used for irrigation.

United States

Food Safety Recall: El Chilar HF, LLC recalls El Chilar Ground Cinnamon (1.25 oz bags; Lots E-054, EX 0225 and D-181, EX 0624) due to elevated lead levels.

Canada

Allergy Alert: Nuts.com recalls Nuts.com brand Ground Sumac (1 lb; No batch codes or UPC available) due to undeclared gluten.

United Kingdom and Ireland

Allergy Alert (Ireland): Aldi recalls Eat & Go Thai Style Massaman Wrap (252g; All use by dates up to and including use by 15/08/2024), Eat & Go Chipotle Chicken Burrito (247g; All use by dates up to and including use by 15/08/2024), and Eat & Go Spice Bag Wrap (236g; All use by dates up to and including use by 15/08/2024) due to undeclared almonds.

Hong Kong and Singapore

Food Safety Recall (Hong Kong): Circle K Convenience Stores (HK) Ltd recalls SHAOMEI brand Brown Sugar Boba Frozen Dessert Bar (80g; Best before July 26, 2025; Product of Taiwan) due to excessive bacterial counts.

Outbreak/Illness Investigations

CANADA (Update): PHAC reports 20 confirmed cases and of Listeria monocytogenes infections traced to plant-based refrigerated beverages marketed under the Silk and Great Value brands. The death toll has risen to three since the outbreak began. CFIA has reported that all of the implicated products were manufactured on the same dedicated production line for Danone Canada by the third-party manufacturer, Joriki Inc. The line has been completely disassembled for purposes of inspection and production will not recommence until the CFIA is satisfied that any contamination has been identified and eliminated. Both Danone Canada and Joriki have cooperated in the investigation.

Allergy Alert: Prime Foods Processing LLC recalls Steam Buns with Egg Custard Added, frozen (Lots #24149, and #24150; Expiration date 10/2025; UPC 797803704050) and Steam Buns with Egg Custard and Coconut Added, frozen (Lot #24149; Expiration date 10/2025; UPC 797803704869) due to undeclared sesame.

Food Safety Recall: Publix Super Markets, Inc. recalls Boars Head Grab and Go Wedge Ham, Smoke Master Black Forest Ham, Grab and Go Sandwich (7.5 oz; Sell by 08/01/2024 & 08/02/2024) due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Animal Food Safety Recall: Predator Pet, Inc. recalls Savage Cat Food Rabbit + Lamb Raw, RTE (Batch code 030324) due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Outbreak/Illness Investigations

USA (Update): CDC has received confirmed reports of 9 new cases of Listeria monocytogenes linked to the recall of Boar’s Meat deli meats, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 43. All 43 outbreak victims have been hospitalized and three deaths have now been reported, one each in New Jersey, Illinois, and Virginia. Lab tests conducted by both Maryland and New York state have confirmed the presence of the outbreak strain in samples of Boar’s Meat liverwurst.

Infant Formula Safety Recall: Perrigo Company plc recalls CVS brand Premium Infant Formula with Iron Milk-Based Powder (34 oz; Lot T11LMYC; Use by 11NOV2025; UPC 041220164578) and H-E-B brand Premium Infant Formula with Iron Milk-Based Powder (34 oz; Lots T11LMXC & T09LMXC; Use by 11NOV2025 & 09NOV2025, respectively; UPC 041220164578) due to levels of Vitamin D above the maximum level permitted.

Food Safety Recall: North Fish USA Inc recalls Cold Smoked Capelin, uneviscerated (9-oz pkgs; Best before 07.13.2024 & 01.05.2025; UPC 4811527003360) due to potential for Clostridium botulinum contamination.
