United States

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: CDC reports 419 confirmed cases of Salmonella Oranienburg infections in 35 states, with 60 people hospitalized. The investigation has not yet identified a food linked to illness.

Enforcement Action: Acting on behalf of the FDA, the U.S. Marshals Service conducted a mass seizure of FDA-regulated spices and food additive products held for sale under insanitary conditions. The seizure was conducted at the premises of the Lyden Spice Corporation in Miami, Florida. The food products seized at the property include more than 25,000 boxes/bags of bulk ready-to-eat spices and food additives, such as monosodium glutamate, crushed red chili and sesame seeds. According to the FDA, the food products were exposed to widespread rodent infestation as well as other pests, such as live and dead insects. 

Pet Food Safety Recall: FROMM FAMILY FOODS recalls multiple varieties of Fromm Shredded can Entrée dog food (12-oz cans; Best by date 082024) due to excessive Vitamin D.
