OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: CDC continues to investigate an outbreak of Salmonella Stanley, Salmonella Pomona, and Salmonella Poona infections linked to contact with small turtles. Fifty-nine (59) confirmed cases have been reported in 18 states, with 23 hospitalizations.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: FDA has opened a traceback investigation into an outbreak of 64 confirmed Salmonella Thompson illnesses. No food has yet been linked to the outbreak.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE (Calgary, Alberta): Alberta Health Services reports that the case count in an E. coli O157 outbreak linked to a commercial kitchen servicing daycare centres appears to have stabilized at 349 lab-confirmed cases, 29 of which are reported to be secondary cases. Six patients remain hospitalized with haemolytic uremic syndrome, including two who are on dialysis.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: FDA reports an increase in confirmed outbreak cases of Salmonella Newport illnesses from 8 to 10. Investigation into the source of the illnesses is ongoing.

Allergy Alert: David’s Cookies recalls Marketside Chocolate Chip Explosion Cake” (7-oz pkg; Lot BS23212) due to undeclared peanuts.

Food Safety Alert (New York State): New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets warns consumers that unpasteurized raw milk from Sunset View Creamer LLC may be contaminated with Campylobacter jejuni and should not be consumed. The producer is now prohibited from selling raw milk until subsequent sampling indicates that the product is free of the pathogen.

Food Safety Recall (Georgia): Rock House Creamery recalls Rock House Creamery whole milk (Best buy dates 9/10/2023, 9/17/2023, 9/20/2023, 9/24/2023, and 10/01/2023) and Rock House Creamery buttermilk (Best buy date 10/02/2023) due to incomplete pasteurization records. The problem was discovered during a routine inspection conducted by the Georgia Department of Agriculture.
