FOOD SAFETY / OUTBREAK ALERT: FDA is advising consumers not to eat and restaurants and food retailers not to serve or sell and to dispose of frozen, raw, half-shell oysters processed by JBR (KR 15 SP) in Tongyeongsi, Republic of Korea (Lots B231126, B240103, and B240214; Pack dates 11/27/2023, 1/4/2024, and 2/15/2024) and shipped to distributors in California because they may be contaminated with Norovirus. The California Department of Public Health has notified the FDA of an outbreak of norovirus illnesses associated with consumption of these oysters.
OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: FDA, CDC and state and local partners are investigating an outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium linked to Infinite Herbs-brand organic basil sold at Trader Joe’s. Twelve confirmed outbreak illnesses have been reported in seven states. One person has been hospitalized. Trader Joe’s has removed the product from its store shelves.
OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: FDA has opened an investigation into a new outbreak of nine E. coli O157:H7 illnesses linked to a not yet identified product.
Food Safety Recall: Trader Joe’s recalls Infinite Herbs Organic Basil (2.5-ounce packages; Sold between February 1, 2024 and April 6, 2024) due to possible Salmonella contamination. The recalled product was available in Trader Joe’s stores in AL, CT, DE, FL, GA, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, ME, MD, MA, MI, MN, MO, NE, NH, NJ, NY, NC, OH, PA, RI, SC, TN, VT, VA, Washington DC, and WI.
FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Euro USA, Inc. (Cleveland, OH) that a July 10 to July 25, 2023 inspection of the company’s seafood processing facility revealed serious violations of the seafood Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulation and the Current Good Manufacturing Practice, Hazard Analysis, and Risk-Based Preventive Controls for Human Food regulation.
