United States

  • Food Safety Recall Update: Walmart and Giant Eagle advise their customers that Pacific Cilantro, which was recalled on December 9, 2011 by Pacific International Marketing due to potential Salmonella contamination, was sold in stores belonging to those retail chains.
  • Pet Food Safety Recall: Advanced Animal Nutrition recalls Dog Power Adult Maintenance Formula 21-12 Dog Food, Dog Power Hunters Formula 26-14 Dog Food, and Dog Power Hi-Pro Performance Formula 26-18 Dog Food (50-lb bags; Lot codes K0004 through K1322; Manufactured between Jan 4, 2011 and Nov. 18, 2011), due to aflatoxin levels that are above the acceptable limit. The recalled dry dog food products were distributed in Missouri, Arkansas and Louisiana.

Canada

  • Food Safety Recall Update: Costco Canada warns its customers that Fontaine Santé brand salad products (Best before dates up to and including 2011 DE 26; Lot #315-339, inclusive), which have been recalled by the manufacturer due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, were sold in Costco Canada Warehouse stores in Ontario and Quebec, and possibly in other provinces and territories.

Europe

  • Allergy Alert (Belgium): Lima nv expands its earlier recall to include all production batches of Choco Rice Cakes au Chocolat Noir (100g), because the product contains undeclared milk and lactose.
  • Food Safety Recall (Ireland): Aldi Stores Ltd. recalls Ballymore Crust Fresh White Sliced Bread (800g; Batch code DU 12 14:34; Best before 14.12.11), due to the possible presence of small rubber pieces in a few loaves.
  • Food Safety Recall (Denmark): Coop Denmark A/S recalls Lettuce (Packed by Brdr. H&H Knudsen; Lot 49B, 49C, 49D and 49E), after Campylobacter was found in Lot 49C.
  • Food Safety Recall (Greece): aftertaste SA recalls OGO Oxygen Water (0.33L bottle; Expiry 12/2011; Lot #L2746; Product of Netherlands), due to the bromates above the permitted concentration.
  • Pet Product Safety Recall (Netherlands): V & D recalls certain I Love My Dog and I Love My Cat cups and bowls, because the paint on the pet dishes contains a high level of chromium, which can leach into the food and water and harm the pets.
  • Pharmaceutical Product Safety Recall (France): Laboratoire Merck Médication Familiale recalls Terpine Gonnon 0.5% cough syrup (Lot TG 0111, Expiry 07/2014; TG 0211, Expiry 07/2014; and TG0311, Expiry 08/2014), due to light deposit of excipients in certain bottles.
  • Dietary Supplement Safety Alert (Sweden): The National Food Administration advises the public that DunMedics has made misleading claims for DunMedics vitamin D oil intended for infants and toddlers. The incident has been referred to the Swedish National Consumer Agency for investigation.
  • Allergy Alert Notification (EU #2011.1819): Undeclared peanut in waffles from Bulgaria; distributed to Bulgaria and Slovakia.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.1821): Escherichia coli in mussels from Spain; distributed to Italy.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.1823): Listeria monocytogenes in smoked salmon from France; distributed to Italy.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.1824): Incorrect labeling on food supplement from Ukraine, via Latvia; distributed to Finland.

Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands

  • Proprietary Medicine Safety Alert (Hong Kong): The Department of Health advises the public not to consume to proprietary Chinese medicines – Jin Kui Shen Qi Wan and a brown-colored pill sold with no name – because the pills may contain undeclared poisons.

Australia and New Zealand

  • Food Safety Recall (New Zealand): Future Cuisine Ltd. recalls Pams Brand Wood-Smoked Mussels (200g & 500g; BBQ, Garlic and Sweet Chili flavors; Use by 13/12/2011; Batch #547) and Future Cuisine Brand Smoked Mussels (500g; Plain, BBQ, Garlic and Sweet Chili flavors; Use by 13/12/2011; Batch #547), due to a positive Listeria monocytogenes test result.
  • Personal Care Product Safety Recall (Australia): Whiter Smile recalls Dr. Collins All-White Bleaching Kit (22% carbamide peroxide), Smile Fusion System with Viocin (22% carbamide peroxide) and Tres-White Pre-Filled Trays (hydrogen peroxide), because the products contain peroxide in excess of the recognized safe limits. The recalled products were distributed nationally via online sales.

  • Food Safety Recall: Flying Food Group (Lawrenceville, GA) updates its recall to include two additional products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The additional recalled products are Turkey Quarter Pounder (7.38-oz pkg; Sell Thru dates of 10/11/11-11/30/11) and Turkey Quarter Pounder with Tomatoes (9.05-oz pkg; Sell Thru dates of 10/11/11-11/30/11). These additional recalled products were made for Race Trac and were distributed to retail outlets in Georgia only.
  • Pet Food Safety Recall: Procter & Gamble recalls Iams ProActive Health Smart Puppy Dry Dog Food (7.0-lb (Code Date 12784177I6), 8.0-lb (Code Dates 12794177D2 & 12794177D3) and 17.5-lb bags (Code Dates 12794177K1 & 12794177K2); Use By or Expiration Dates of February 5 or February 6, 2013), due to aflatoxin levels above the acceptable limit. The recalled pet food was distributed to a “limited number of retailers” in the eastern USA (AL, CT, DE, FL, GA, LA, MD, ME, MS, NC, NH, NJ, NY, PA, SC, VA).
  • Food Recall/Withdrawal: Food City reports that several varieties of Tribe Hummus have been recalled or withdrawn from the marketplace. Please refer to the Food City web site for a list of affected products.
  • Dietary Supplement Enforcement Action: At the request of FDA, U.S. Marshals seized raw materials imported by Infinity Marketing Group, Inc., because the materials contained ephedrine alkaloids, a family of compounds that were banned by FDA since 2004 for use in dietary supplements.
  • Allergy Alert Notification (EU #2011.1704): Undeclared milk ingredient in dark chocolate with salt flower from Slovenia; distributed to Australia, Austria, Finland, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Switzerland and the USA.

Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands

  • Food Safety Recall (Japan): Meiji recalls 400,000 cans of Meiji Step baby formula, because the product contains a small amount of radioactive cesium-134 and cesium-137. The product was sold only in Japan.
  • Food Safety Alert (China): Deliberate contamination of a yoghurt drink made by Coca-Cola is blamed for the death of one child and the poisoning of three other people. It’s not yet know what poison was contained in the Minute Maid Pulpy Milky beverage, but the investigation is being treated as a criminal case. Tens of thousands of bottles of the beverage have been removed from store shelves in Jilin, and several other cities have stopped selling the drink.
  • Outbreak Alert (Guam): At least 21 individuals were treated for symptoms of food poisoning after attending various functions. The common link among the victims was consumption of cream puffs from Celebrity Bakery.
  • Food Safety Notification (EU #2011.1716): Escherichia coli in chilled clams from France, with raw material from the United Kingdom; distributed to Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Switzerland and Thailand.

  • Allergy Alert Update: USDA releases retail distribution list for Cantella’s Fully Cooked Chicken Sausage with Apples, recalled by Papa Cantella’s Inc. due to misbranding and the presence of undeclared walnuts. The recalled sausages were sold in Von’s and Pavilions supermarkets in Southern California.
  • Food Safety Recall: Giant Eagle, Inc. recalls Valu Time Canned Pumpkin (purchased on or after August 30, 2011) and Food Club Canned Pumpkin (purchased on or after October 28, 2011), because the products do not meet quality standards. The canned pumpkin brands were produced by Topco Associates, LLC.
  • Food Safety Recall: Front Row Produce (St. Louis, MO) recalls Front Row Produce Grape Tomatoes (10-oz pkgs supplied in cases bearing lot #2310802, 2310405 or 2510401; 10-lb bulk in cardboard boxes bearing lot #2310801), because the grape tomatoes may be contaminated with Salmonella. The recalled tomatoes were supplied by Rio Queen Citrus (Mission, TX) and distributed throughout Missouri and Illinois to foodservice distributors and retail stores.
  • Food Safety Recall: Bavan Food Company (Sacramento, CA) recalls Bavan Brand Mix Goli Candy (14-0z/400gm clear pkg; all code dates), due to unacceptable levels of lead. The recalled candies were sold in several East-Indian retail stores in Northern California.
  • Food Safety Recall: Bee International Creation (Chula Vista, CA) recalls Bee Brand Sunny Day Gummies candy (100g plastic package; all code dates), due to unacceptable levels of lead.

Canada

  • Allergy Alert: Jérome’s Steak House et Boucherie (Boucherville, QC) recalls Chicken Noodle Soup, Cream of Chicken, and Spaghetti Sauce (1-liter size; all dates and codes), due to the presence of undeclared soy.
  • Allergy Alert: Metro Ontario Inc. recalls Irresistibles Gluten-Free Honey Nut O’s Cereal and Apple Cinammon Flavour O’s Cereal (285g; all codes), due to the presence of undeclared gluten. The recalled products were sold in Ontario and Quebec.
  • Allergy Alert: Axep Plus (Roxton Falls, QC) recalls several prepared foods due to the presence of undeclared soy, wheat, sulfites, egg, milk, and or anchovies. Please refer to the recall notice for details.
  • Unauthorized Health Product Safety Recall: CANA International Distributing Inc. recalls Stiff One Hard 169, after Health Canada finds an undeclared prescription medication (thiodimethylsildenafil) in the product. Stiff One Hard 169 was sold at retail locations in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec, and also over the Internet.
  • Health Alert: Alberta Health Services reminds residents of Central Alberta to take precautions to limit the spread of norovirus, after a recent increase in gastro-intestinal illnesses reported in the Central Zone.

Europe

  • Allergy Alert (UK): Enotria withdraws Capriola Pino Grigio della Venezie 2010 (75cl; all 2010 batches), because the wine contains undeclared sulfites. The affected batches were sold only in Morrisons supermarkets.
  • Allergy Alert (UK): Waitrose recalls Belgian Plain Chocolate (200g; Best before Aug 2012; Batch #L15423C), due to the presence of undeclared hazelnuts.
  • Food Safety Recall (France): Natrazahor France recalls Ivoria Tablette de Chocolat au Lait Amandes Caramélisées (Lot #L29; Best before 10/2012), due to contaminated with glass particles.
  • Food Safety Alert (Norway): The Food Safety Authority has discovered that a batch of lamb meat may contain traces of penicillin and/or sulfonamides. The affected lamb was sold on or after 24 November in nine Oslo-area shoes. Please refer to the Health Alert notice for a list of the affected shops.
  • Food Safety Recall (Finland): Helsinki Laziza Foods Ltd. recalls Natco® Jeera Ground Cumin (Packed by Natco Foods Ltd. in Great Britain; 100g, 400g, 1kg and 5kg pkgs; Best before dates of 11/2011, 4/2012, 5/2012, 6/2012, 8/2012, 9/2012, 12/2012, 1/2013, 3/2013, 4/2013, 7/2013) after the product was linked to a suspected food poisoning in a Helsinki restaurant. The recalled cumin is contaminated with Bacillus cereus, Clostridium perfringens and Salmonella Caracas.
  • Food Safety Recall (Denmark): Gert Nielsen A/S recalls several products containing pork (produced 18/11-2011, 20/11-2011, 21/11-2011 and 22/11-2011, because the raw pork was found to be contaminated with Salmonella.
  • Food Safety Recall (Denmark): Coop Denmark A/S recalls Italian Baby Spinach (75g; Packed by Alfano Tomasso, Italy; All lots sold during 24 to 29 November 2011), due to contamination with Campylobacter.
  • Food Safety Recall (UK): Creme d’Or Ltd. recalls Felko Christmas Figures with Candy (Batch codes 34557 and 38675; Best before 10/01/2013) and Gumball Machine with Candy (Batch codes 29557 and 3456; Best before 15/11/2012), due to the possible risk of a choking hazard.
  • Food Safety Recall (Belgium): Tadal  and Koylu Food BVBA recall Dardanel brand Canned Tuna and Dardanel brand Tuna packets sold after 21 September 2011, due to unacceptable levels of mercury in the tuna.
  • Food Safety Withdrawal (Ireland): Food Safety Authority of Ireland announces the precautionary withdrawal of all products manufactured by Societa Cooperativa Agricola GMG F.lli Gaudiano arl, Italy, as a result of a follow-up investigation of a botulism outbreak in Finland that was traced to Bio Gaudiano Almond-stuffed Olives. The products were distributed to Russell Gallery in New Quay, Co. Clare. Please refer to the Alert for a complete list of affected products.
  • Food Safety Recall (Netherlands): Culina Foods bvba recalls Culina Foods brand Mustard Dill Dressing SLA, due to product fermentation. Please refer to the VWA safety warning for details on affected lot numbers.
