United States

OUTBREAK ALERT UPDATE: CDC reports 43 cases of Salmonella Stanley infections in 10 states linked to consumption of Wood Ear Mushrooms. Four people have been hospitalized.

Food Safety Recall: Seneca Snack Company recalls Seneca Cinnamon Apple Chips (0.7-oz & 2.5-oz pkgs; Expiry dates 26JUN2021 & 28JUN2021, respectively) and Clancy’s Cinnamon Apple Chips (2.5-oz pkgs; Expiry dates 26JUN2021 & 27JUN2021) due to possible Salmonella contamination.

Food Safety Recall Update: Country Fresh expands its recall to include various containers of “Freshness Guaranteed “cut and/or sliced apples, grapes, mangos, pineapples and cantaloupe distributed by Walmart, due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. OUTBREAK ALERT UPDATE (Denmark): The Statens Serum Institut, the DTU Food Institute and the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration have collaborated to trace the source of an outbreak of 44 Shigella infections to fresh mint bought at a local greengrocer or bazaar in and around the Copenhagen area. It is believed that the mint was probably imported.

Allergy Alert (France): Auchan recalls Madrange brand Confit de foies aux châtaignes / Liver confit with chestnuts (150g; Lot #274 LS6; Use by 04/11/2020) due to undeclared gluten.

Allergy Alert (Ireland): Industry recalls Dunkin’ Donuts Boston Kreme Donuts (148g 2-pack; Batch code L-02480BM20; Best before 04/09/2021) due to undeclared gluten (wheat), eggs, soybeans, and milk.

Allergy Alert (UK): Waitrose & Partners recalls Easy to Cook Pork and Chorizo Burgers (280g; All date codes) due to undeclared egg.

OUTBREAK ALERT: CDC reports 13 cases of Salmonella Muenster infections in 8 states linked to pet bearded dragons. Seven people have been hospitalized.

OUTBREAK ALERT: CDC reports 32 cases of Salmonella Typhimurium infections in 17 states linked to pet hedgehogs. Five people have been hospitalized.

Food Safety Alert: The Rhode Island Department of Health warns the public to avoid juices, smoothies, and sea moss gel purchased from Health is Wealth Nutrition Center located at 1674 Cranston Street in Cranston because inadequate processing of these products has made them susceptible to contamination with Clostridium botulinum.

Food Safety Recall: Country Fresh recalls a limited quantity of watermelon chunks from select Walmart and RaceTrac stores due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

Canada

OUTBREAK ALERT FINAL UPDATE: PHAC reports that the Salmonella Newport outbreak linked to red onions imported from the United States appears to be over. Between mid-June and late August, there were 515 confirmed cases of salmonellosis in British Columbia (121), Alberta (293), Saskatchewan (35), Manitoba (26), Ontario (14), Quebec (25) and Prince Edward Island (1). Seventy-nine individuals were hospitalized and three people died, but Salmonella did not contribute to the cause of these deaths, according to PHAC.

Food Safety Recall Update: Sunsprout Natural Foods recalls Sunsprout brand Micro – Greens, Alfalfa (100g; All best before dates up to and including BBOCT13; UPC 0 57621 13511 6) due to possible Salmonella contamination. This recall notice has been update to indicate that the recalled product was distributed in Nova Scotia.

Canada

OUTBREAK ALERT: The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) reports eight cases of Salmonella Typhimurium infections in British Columbia (5), Alberta (2), and Yukon (1). The illnesses are linked to exposure to Paws Up! and Western Family brands of pig ear dog treats. Three individuals have been hospitalized and one person has died. The supplier, Master’s Best Friend, has issued a Notice of Stop Sale for the implicated products, which were sold at Canadian Tire and Save-On-Foods stores.

Allergy Alert: Loblaw Companies Ltd. recalls President’s Choice brand Maple Apple flavour Seasoned Pork Loin Roast (730g; Best Before 2020 OC 13; UPC 0 60383 20663 5) due to undeclared mustard.

Food Safety Recall: Érablière Godbout recalls Érablière Godbout brand Sauce spaghetti (500 ml and 1 L; All units where the label does not mention “Keep Refrigerated”) because the product may permit the growth of Clostridium botulinum.
