OUTBREAK ALERT (Washington State): Washington State Department of Health an outbreak of Vibrio infections that has already surpassed the highest number of cases ever recorded by the state for the month of July. Please follow the link to learn how to collect and consume shellfish safely.

Allergy Alert: Lipari Foods recalls Troyer Manufacturing Backroad Country Dried Apricots (9 oz; Lot #440021117; Expiration date 12/2021) due to undeclared sulphites.

Allergy Alert: 2032271 Alberta Ltd. recalls Galanlang Lanzhou Noodles (180g cup; Date code 2020/11/07; UPC 6 957110 700211) due to undeclared sesame seeds and soy.

Food Safety Recall: Souk Michelet recalls Souk Michelet, poisson fumé / Smoked fish (Sold up to 19 July 2021) because the product was produced and/or packaged under conditions that may render it unsafe to consume.

Europe

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE (Multiple countries): ECDC reports 348 confirmed cases of Salmonella Braenderup infections in 12 EU countries and the UK between 15 March and 6 July 2021. Sixty-eight people were hospitalized.  The outbreak strain was isolated in the UK in two imported Galia melons from one batch from Honduras, and in Austria from a pooled sample of melons (unknown origin) including Galia melons.

OUTBREAK ALERT (UK-England): Public Health England warns that the number of outbreaks caused by Norovirus (commonly referred to as the vomiting bug) has increased in recent weeks (5-week period from end May to July), particularly in early year educational settings, and that cases are returning to pre-pandemic levels across all age groups and settings in England.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION (Sweden): The Swedish Public Health Authority reports an outbreak of 26 cases of three different types of Salmonella—Havana, Mbandaka and Orion— in 11 regions of the country. Twelve of the cases involve children under five years old. The outbreak has been linked to consumption of tahini and halva products imported from Syria and sold primarily through small specialty stores.
