OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: CDC is investigating an outbreak of Salmonella Stanley infections linked to on-line purchase of small turtles (shells less than 4 inches long). Fifteen illnesses have been reported in 11 states, with 5 hospitalizations. Federal law bans the sale of these small turtles as pets due to the risk of Salmonella infections.

FDA Warning Letter: FDA issues formal Warning Letter to Swan Brothers Dairy Inc (Claremore, OK) after an inspection of the facility reveals the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the production environment. The inspection was initiated after an individual was hospitalized with listeriosis following consumption of raw cow’s milk from the facility. The individual subsequently died.
