Public Health Alert: USDA/FSIS issues a public health alert for imported FROZEN STRIPED PANGASIUS MAWS (12 oz (340g) plastic packages) that were illegally imported from the People’s Republic of China and are ineligible for entry into the United States.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), in collaboration with provincial partners, is investigating an outbreak of 35 confirmed cases of Salmonella Lome infections in seven provinces between March 2020 and January 2024. The illnesses have been linked to exposure to pet geckos. Cases have been confirmed in British Columbia (2), Alberta (2), Saskatchewan (2), Manitoba (2), Ontario (18), Quebec (8) and New Brunswick (1). Seven cases (20%) are in children 5 years of age or younger.

Food Safety Alert: New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets warns consumers about possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination in unpasteurized raw milk from Garrie A. Smith dba Big Brook Farm, after a sample of the milk collected by an inspector was found to contain L. monocytogenes. The producer is now prohibited from selling raw milk until subsequent sampling indicates that the product is free of harmful bacteria.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: The Public Health Agency of Canada reports 70 cases of Salmonella illnesses linked to snakes and feeder rodents in an outbreak involving eight provinces: British Columbia (3), Alberta (10), Saskatchewan (7), Manitoba (3), Ontario (32), Quebec (11), New Brunswick (1) and Newfoundland and Labrador (3). The outbreak began in February 2022, and the most recent case was reported in February 2024. Ten people have been hospitalized, and one person has died.
