Outbreak/Illness Investigations

MULTIPLE CONTRIES: ECDC is tracking a 7-country outbreak of 341 confirmed Salmonella Enteritidis ST11 infections that appears to be linked to imported eggs (or possibly pountry, based on a small number of patient interviews in the Netherlands). Cases have been identified in Austria (2), Belgium (15), Denmark (1), France (4), Germany (6), the Netherlands (106), and the United Kingdom (207). At least 34 cases have been hospitalised.

USA: CDC and FDA are investigating a 15-state outbreak of gastrointestinal illnesses traced to alfalfa sprouts grown by Everything Sprouts and sold under the Calco and Everything Sprouts brands at retailers and grocery stores. Forty-six people were infected with shiga toxin-producing E. coli, 7 people were infected with Salmonella, and 2 people were infected with both Salmonella and E. coli. Four of the 55 outbreak victims have been hospitalized.

USA Cyclospora Outbreak Update: CDC advises that the number of confirmed Cyclospora cases linked to iceberg lettuce recalled by Taylor Farms de Mexico has increased to 10,930 victims in 17 states. Two people have died and 454 were hospitalized.

USA Cyclosporiasis Update: CDC has confirmed 15,716 domestically acquired cases of cyclosporiasis in 47 US states, plus Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia since May 1st. An additional 11,841 cases or more may require further investigation and analysis. Two people have died and 828 have been hospitalized. Another 1,681 cases were attributed to foreign travel.
