Outbreak/Illness Investigations

NORWAY: The Norwegian Institute of Public Health reports an outbreak of six cases of Listeria monocytogenes linked to consumption of smalahove, smalahove jam, or sausage rolls from Smalahovetunet Voss. Illnesses began between January 2025 and January 2026. The outbreak victims range in age from 60 to 90 years and have all been hospitalized. The Veterinary Institute has recovered Listeria monocytogenes from an unopened package of frozen sausage and from an opened package of jam from the homes of two of the infected individuals. Genetic sequencing of the two isolates is in progress.

USA (Update): CDC reports 65 cases of Salmonella Typhimurium and Salmonella Newport infections linked to moringa leaf used as an ingredient in dietary supplements. Confirmed illness reports have been received from 28 states. Fourteen people have been hospitalized.
