Outbreak/Illness Investigations

BELGIUM: The Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain is investigating an outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis that has grown to 300 cases. The outbreak has been traced to eggs from a Laerco BV poultry house. The implicated eggs were exported to several countries, including Czechia, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, and Spain.

UK Update: The UK Health Security Agency continues to track a year-long outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis illnesses that has risen to 207 cases as of August 13, 2026. One person has died. A specific food source has not yet been identified; however, data are suggestive of eggs.

USA Update: CDC reports that the Salmonella Javiana outbreak linked to jalapeño peppers from Mexico has grown to 431 confirmed cases across 32 states. Fifty-seven people have been hospitalized. Minnesota and Colorado are the two most heavily affected states, with 129 and 118 outbreak cases respectively.

USA: FDA is investigating a new 18-case outbreak of E. coli O103:H25 and a new 20-case outbreak of E. coli O26:H11, both linked to an as yet unidentified food and has updated the case count on several other outbreak investigations that are in progress.

Food Safety Recall Update: Grand Central Bakery recalls loaves of Potato Sourdough bread due to possible foreign matter contamination (pieces of metal).

FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Waves and Wine, Inc. that a compliance follow-up inspection of the company’s pet food manufacturing facility found evidence of significant violations of FDA’s Current Good Manufacturing Practice, Hazard Analysis, and Risk-Based Preventive Controls for Food for Animals requirements.

Canada

Allergy Alert: AJ International Trading, Kam Wah Resources Co. Ltd. recall Wu Xian Zhai brand Vegetarian beef and Preserved beancurd due to undeclared wheat.

Food Safety Recall: Crémerie boulevard Bouffe inc., and Les bonbons Sugar Daddy’s (Sherbrooke, QC) recall all varieties of TROMPE L’ŒIL pastries (Sold up to 19 August 2026) due to possible Staphylococcus aureus contamination.

Food Safety Recall: Tout est là tout est frais (Drummondville, QC) recalls all varieties of TROMPE L’ŒIL pastries (Sold up to 17 August 2026) due to possible Staphylococcus aureus contamination.

USA (California): San Diego County is tracking an outbreak of 21 Salmonella illnesses linked to shell eggs from Happy Hens poultry farm. Seven people have been hospitalized. The raw eggs were used by a market in Ramona, California, to produce mayonnaise. Additional cases of the same Salmonella strain unrelated to the market are also under investigation. Some of the eggs may have been distributed to retail outlets.

Food Safety Recall: Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, Inc. recalls multiple lot codes of Outshine Strawberry, Watermelon, Grape, Tangerine, and Black Cherry Fruit Bars (6-count, 2.5 oz) due to possible foreign matter contamination (glass).

USA Cyclospora Update: CDC reports 9,481 lab-confirmed cases, 398 hospitalizations, and two deaths in the Cyclospora outbreak linked to lettuce from Taylor Farms de Mexico. Outbreak cases have now been confirmed in 17 states.

Food Safety Recall: Kettle Cuisine LLC recalls Marketside Tomato Bisque Soup Kit (14 oz; (397g); Best by / Use by 8/22/26; UPC 194346474004) due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Allergy Alert: AZ Gems Canada Inc (DBA Select Source Seafood) recalls Aqua Gems brand Tempura Shrimp (454g; Lot no. 535T/KD. 2025; Best before 2027 AU 09; UPC 8 13983 02039 8) due to undeclared egg.

Allergy Alert: J.L. Trading Co. Ltd. recalls Zhou Hei Ya brand Wide Vermicelli with Sesame Sauce (248g; Date codes 2026/03/13 and 2026/10/12; UPC 6 978378 870324) due to undeclared shrimp.

Food Safety Recall: Whole Foods Market recalls 22 Whole Foods Market brand guacamoles, pico de gallos, salsa, and prepared foods due to possible Salmonella contamination. The recalled products, which were made using jalapeño peppers linked to an outbreak of Salmonella illnesses in the United States, were distributed online and in Ontario stores. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products in Canada.

Food Safety Recall: Boulangerie Pâtisserie La Belle Bleue inc. recalls TROMPE L’ŒIL CITRON and TROMPE L’ŒIL FRAMBOISE / Lemon-shaped pastry and Raspberry-shaped pastry (Sold August 6-8, 2026) due to possible Staphylococcus aureus contamination.
