Outbreak/Illness Investigations

USA: CDC reports an outbreak of 45 cases of Salmonella Typhimurium infections in 21 states. Twelve people have been hospitalized. The outbreak has been linked to Live it Up Super Greens dietary supplement powder. The company has agreed to initiate a recall.

USA/INTERNATIONAL WATERS: CDC’S Vessel Sanitation Program is investigating an outbrek of Norovirus on the Holland America Line cruise ship Rotterdam (Voyage #RN251228). Eighty-five of the 2,593 passengers and 9 of 1,005 crew members reported symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting.

Food Safety Alert: FDA alerts the public not to eat, sell or serve certain Live it Up brand Super Greens dietary supplement powder (Expiration dates from August 2026 to January 2028) due to potential Salmonella contamination. The products have been linked to an outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium infections in 21 states.

FDA Warning Letter: FDA warns Middle East/Soli’s Baking Company, Inc. dba Middle East Baking Co. that a November 20, 2024 to January 10, 2025 inspection of the company’s pita manufacturing facility revealed serious violations of the Current Good Manufacturing Practice, Hazard Analysis, and Risk-Based Preventive Controls for Human Food regulation.

Food Safety Recall Update: Loblaws Companies Limited recalls no name brand Beef Burgers (1.36 kg; BEST BEFORE 2026 MA 05 B##* BMP EST 112 *where ## is a variable number; UPC 0 60383 37333 7) due to possible E. coli O157:H7 contamination.

Food Safety Recall Update: Multiple firms recall Various pistachios and pistachio-containing products due to possible Salmonella contamination.

Food Safety Recall: L’Eau Vive inc. (Mont-Saint-Hilaire, QC) recalls PISTACHE SANS ÉCALE / Shelled pistachios (Bulk; Sold between 26 June and 1 September 2025) due to possible Salmonella contamination.

Food Safety Recall: Boulangerie Les Fours du Roy inc. (Granby, QC) recalls PISTACHE SANS ÉCALE / Shelled pistachios (Bulk; Sold between 14 July and 15 December 2025) due to possible Salmonella contamination.

Food Safety Recall: Intermarché Palumbo (Laval, QC) recalls Pistache non sale / Unsalted pistachios (Sold between 13 August 2025 and 13 January 2026) due to possible Salmonella contamination.

Food Safety Recall: Mme Macadam noix et délices (Québec, QC) recalls Whole pistachios and crushed pistachios (Bulk; Sold between 13 June and 1 October 2025) due to possible Salmonella contamination.

Food Safety Recall Update (Ireland): Further update to SMA infant formula and follow on formula recall to include batches and products possibly distributed to Ireland from the UK. The recalled products may be contaminated with cereulide toxin, which is produced by Bacillus cereus.
