USA (Idaho): Idaho Public Health has received 18 reports of Campylobacter infections linked to consumption of raw (unpasteurized) milk. Seventeen of the 18 victims reported having consumed milk from Paradise Grove Dairy.

Food Safety Recall: Gutierrez Distributor recalls El Servidor Corp brand ground cinnamon (1.5-ounce clear plastic bag; Distributed to retailers in New York beginning January 14, 2024) due to potential for elevated levels of lead.

Canada

Food Safety Recall: Pavao Meats & Deli Ltd. / European Butcher recalls European Butcher brand Canadian back bacon half, Canadian back bacon chunks, and Canadian back bacon sliced (Variable weights; Batch #177; UPC starts with 0 215096, 0 200386, and 0 200029, respectively) due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Outbreak/Illness Investigations

USA: CDC and public health authorities in multiple states are investigating Salmonella outbreaks linked to contact with small pet turtles. In all, 51 illness have been confirmed in 21 states. Twenty-three (23) victims have been hospitalized. At least two different Salmonella strains are implicated in these investigations: Salmonella Stanley (38 cases) and Salmonella Poona (13 cases). More than one-third of the victims are less than five years old; 20% are less than one year old.

Public Health Alert: USDA/FSIS Issues Public Health Alert For Ineligible Meat and Poultry Products Illegally Imported From the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, a country ineligible to export meat and poultry products to the United States. Please refer to the Publc Health Alert for additional details.

Food Safety Recall: NANJING NUTRABUILDING BIO TECH C (Nanjing, China) recalls Bovine Collagen Peptide. Powder, Grade A, Cowhide Source (20 kg; Batch nos. 20230806, 20230902, and 20230903; Expiration dates 2026.08.05, 2026.09.01, and 2026.09.02, respectively; Product of China) due to potential Salmonella contamination. The recalled product was distributed in Wisconsin.

Food Safety Recall: Perdue Foods LLC recalls approximately 167,171 pounds of frozen, ready-to-eat chicken breast nugget and tender products due to possible foreign matter contamination (metal). Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

Food Safety Recall: Fromi Canada Inc. recalls La Réserve des Crémiers brand “Tomme de savoie fruitière” (1.614 kg; Lot 12002224145-0374-D1; Use by 28.07.2024; Product of France) due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The recalled product was distributed in Alberta.

Outbreak/Illness Investigations

SPAIN: The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) reports five confirmed cases of Salmonella Enteritidis linked to consumption of Formatgeria Mas d’Eroles brand soft cheese made with raw sheep’s milk. The outbreak strain has been recovered from a sample of the cheese.

USA (Update): FDA reports that a second cucumber grower, Thomas Produce Company, has been linked to an outbreak of Salmonella Braenderup in 31 states and the District of Columbia. The outbreak strain was recovered from a sample of canal water used for irrigation.

Food Safety Recall: El Chilar HF, LLC recalls El Chilar Ground Cinnamon (1.25 oz bags; Lots E-054, EX 0225 and D-181, EX 0624) due to elevated lead levels.

Canada

Allergy Alert: Nuts.com recalls Nuts.com brand Ground Sumac (1 lb; No batch codes or UPC available) due to undeclared gluten.

United Kingdom and Ireland

Allergy Alert (Ireland): Aldi recalls Eat & Go Thai Style Massaman Wrap (252g; All use by dates up to and including use by 15/08/2024), Eat & Go Chipotle Chicken Burrito (247g; All use by dates up to and including use by 15/08/2024), and Eat & Go Spice Bag Wrap (236g; All use by dates up to and including use by 15/08/2024) due to undeclared almonds.

Hong Kong and Singapore

Food Safety Recall (Hong Kong): Circle K Convenience Stores (HK) Ltd recalls SHAOMEI brand Brown Sugar Boba Frozen Dessert Bar (80g; Best before July 26, 2025; Product of Taiwan) due to excessive bacterial counts.
