OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE—Elevated lead levels: As of December 5, 2023, FDA has received 64 reports of adverse events potentially linked to recalled Cinnamon Applesauce pouches. To date, confirmed complainants, or people who an adverse event was submitted for, are under 6 years of age. FDA has initiated an onsite inspection at the Austrofoods facility located in Ecuador. Ingredient sample collection is underway. The FDA is continuing to coordinate with Ecuadorian authorities on the investigation of the source of elevated lead levels in cinnamon apple pouches. In addition, the Ecuadorian authorities report that Negasmart’s cinnamon had higher levels of lead than allowed by Ecuador and that Negasmart, the supplier of cinnamon to Austrofoods, is currently under an Ecuadorian administrative sanctions process to determine the responsible party for the contamination.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: FDA is investigating a new outbreak of 3 cases of Listeria monocytogenes infections not yet linked to a specific food.

Allergy Alert: Lara’s Bakery 3 LLC recalls multiple varieties of Pan de Racho, Panque, and Pan Surtido due to undeclared Sesame seed, coconut, soy, wheat, milk, and egg. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

Food Safety Recall: TGD Cuts, LLC recalls specific fresh-cut fruit cup, clamshell and tray products due to potential Salmonella contamination. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

Food Safety Recall: Market Cuts LLC recalls multiple products containing cut fruit due to potential Salmonella contamination. Please refer to the Enforcement Report for a complete list of affected products.

Food Safety Recall: Freshpoint Of Southern CA recalls Imperial Fresh brand whole cantaloupe (3 ct & 6 ct; Code information 10/18/2023 to 11/9/2023) due to possible Salmonella contamination. The fruit was distributed to food service customers in California, Arizona and Nevada.

Food Safety Recall: FreshPoint Dallas recalls Imperial Fresh 1/6 CT MELONS CANTALOUPE  and Imperial Fresh 1/3 CT MELONS CANTALOUPE (Batch/date codes 10-19-23, 10-24-23 and 10-27-23) due to possible Salmonella contamination. The fruit was distributed to Institutions, medical facilities and direct food service accounts in Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi, Kansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas.

Food Safety Recall: Garland Ventures recalls Freshness Guaranteed brand “CHICKEN FRIED RICE DICED CHICKEN MEAT WITH VEGETABLES AND RICE IN A SAVORY SOY SAUCE” (12-oz trays; Lot 595874884; Best if used by 11/10/2024) due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION (UK): FSA reports more than 200 human cases of salmonellosis caused by specific genetic strains of Salmonella Enteritidis that have been linked to poultry products such as meat and eggs. The agency reminds consumers to take care when handling and cooking poultry products at home, including chilled and frozen chicken and turkey drumsticks, breasts, thighs and chicken pieces. The recent rise in cases has been linked to poultry products imported from Poland.

ADVERSE EVENT INVESTIGATION UPDATE: As of November 30, 2023, FDA has received 57 reports of adverse events potentially linked to Cinnamon Applesauce Pouches. In all cases, the victims are under five years of age. Wanabana USA and Austrofood report that the cinnamon used to manufacture the recalled products was supplied by Negocios Asociados Mayoristas S.A., operating as Negasmart, a third-party distribution company located in Ecuador. FDA has confirmed that Negasmart does not import cinnamon directly into the U.S., and is working with Ecuadorian authorities to investigate the source of the contamination and to determine if the cinnamon in the recalled products was used in other products or distributed as a raw ingredient to other countries. 

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: CDC has received reports of 117 lab-confirmed Salmonella infections linked to consumption of contaminated cantaloupes imported from Mexico. Two people have died and 61 have been hospitalized.

Allergy Alert: Gaws Gourmet Foods recalls three varieties of 8” deli subs, and two varieties of breakfast bagel sandwiches due to undeclared sesame. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

Allergy Alert: Manischewitz recalls Manischewitz Dark Chocolate Coins (0.53 oz; Lot 2283; UPC 072700200387; Display box UPC 072700200356) due to undeclared milk.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: The PHAC has received reports of 66 lab-confirmed cases of Salmonella infections in six provinces. The cases are linked to consumption of cantaloupes imported from Mexico. One person has died and 19 have been hospitalized. The great majority of reported cases are in susceptible populations: 39% in children under five years of age, and 39% in seniors (adults over 65 years of age).
