OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: CDC is assisting with the investigation of a 29-case outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 infections in Michigan (15) and Ohio (14). Nine people have been hospitalized. The source of the illnesses has not yet been found.

Allergy Alert: The Gluten Free Bar recalls The GFB Dark Chocolate Coconut Bites ( 1.2 oz; Lot code 041323-174; UPC 856818008895) due to undeclared cashew.

Canada

Allergy Alert: Chuang’s Company Ltd. recalls Delizia brand Vegetarian Ham (500g; Lot code 81610; UPC 8 16432 00529 8) due to undeclared gluten and wheat. The recalled product was sold in British Columbia.

Allergy Alert: Sher Produce recalls various Sher the Love brand Fruit and Veggie Squares due to improperly declared milk. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products, which were sold in Ontario.

Food Safety Recall: Mother Dairy recalls Mother Dairy brand Paneer Fresh Cheese (340g; Best before 2022/10/25; UPC 6 98708 98763 3) due to E. coli contamination. The recalled product was sold in Alberta.

Food Safety Recall: Service Alimentaire Desco Inc. recalls Best Buy brand Chicken Tournedos with Bacon (1.15 kg; Best before 2023-AL-25, 2023-AL-26, 2023-JN-06, 2023-JN-07 & 2023-JN-09; UPC 0 55742 56757 1) due to foreign matter contamination (pieces of bone). The recalled product was sold in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador.

Food Safety Recall: Caldic Canada Inc. recalls Supherb Farms brand IQF Dill (35 pound; Product codes 035720-11.19.21 & 035731-11.19.21) due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The recalled product was sold in Ontario.

Europe

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE (Denmark): The Statens Serum Institut reports 21 confirmed cases of Salmonella Enteritidis in an outbreak of unknown origin that began at the end of March 2022. Most of the cases have occurred in the Capital Region and Zealand Region.

Allergy Alert (Germany): Dirk Rossmann GmbH recalls enerBIO Haferfreude Smoothie / Organic oatmeal smoothie (All Best before dates) due to undeclared sesame, peanuts and other nuts.

Allergy Alert (Luxembourg): Auchan recalls La Provençale brand Kuddelfleck préparé (350g & 1000g; Article numbers 519077, 510364, 513092) due to undeclared mustard.

Food Safety Recall: Albertsons Companies recalls 18 store-prepared items made with King’s Hawaiian pretzel rolls due to the potential for microbiological contamination. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

Food Safety Recall: Kraft Heinz recalls Capri Sun Wild Cherry Flavored Juice Drink Blend beverages (6.6 fl. oz. individual foil pouches packed in paperboard cartons; pouch manufacturing code 25JUN2023 WXX LYY ####) after diluted cleaning solution, which is used on food processing equipment, was inadvertently introduced into a production line at one of the company’s factories. OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE (Denmark): The Statens Serum Institut has now recorded 19 cases of Salmonella Enteritidis since March 31, 2022, in an outbreak whose origin remains undetermined. The victims live mainly in the Capital region and Zealand region.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: The CDC reports 884 illnesses, 158 hospitalizations and 2 deaths in this year’s outbreak of Salmonella infections linked to contact with backyard poultry. Illnesses have been reported in 48 states and the District of Columbia.

Allergy Alert: EZ Noble Sushi recalls multiple sushi products sold at Geissler’s Supermarkets in Connecticut and Massachusetts due to undeclared eggs, wheat, and milk. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

Food Safety Recall: King’s Hawaiian recalls multiple lot codes of Pretzel Slider Buns, Pretzel Hamburger Buns and Pretzel Bites products following a recall of an ingredient used in the pretzel products from one of its suppliers, Lyons Magnus. Canada

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: The Public Health Agency of Canada continues to track an outbreak of Cyclospora that has affected 283 individuals in five provinces. Eleven people have been hospitalized. No source of the outbreak has yet been determined.

Allergy Alert: A Taste of Ukraine Catering Ltd. recalls Taste of Ukraine brand Chicken Pelmeni (625g and 908g; Expiry dates 05/27/23 (both sizes) and 06/17/23 (625g size only)) due to undeclared milk.

Food Safety Recall: Tony’s Meats Ltd. recalls Crescent brand Pastrami (175g; Date code 22 OC 03; UPC 7 78086 00255 2) and Crescent brand Turkey Breast (175g; Date code 22 SE 20; UPC 7 78086 00258 3) due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Europe

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION (Norway): Norway’s Institute of Public Health is investigating an outbreak of monophasic Salmonella Typhimurium in 18 people. All of the 13 outbreak victims who have been interviews so far reported having eaten watermelon in the few days before becoming ill. Most of the victims became ill during the period from the end of June to the middle of July 2022. Victims range in age from 1 year to 87 years, and 10 of the 18 victims are men.
