OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATES: FDA updates status of multiple foodborne illness outbreak investigations, including a new outbreak of Salmonella Mississippi that has sickened 99 persons.

Allergy Alert Update: Albertsons Companies recalls ReadyMeals Shrimp Cooked with Cocktail Sauce (12 oz; UPC 23463800000 & 23463900000; All Sell Thru Dates up to and including Sept. 1) due to undeclared anchovies. The recalled products were sold at Albertsons and Safeway stores in Oregon and Washington.

Food Safety Recall: Connoisseur’s Kitchen recalls SPICE MANTRA CHICKEN KORMA (2 lb; Lot code 220803-406US; Product of Canada) and SPICE MANTRA BUTTER CHICKEN (2 lb; Lot code 220803-400US; Product of Canada) due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Europe

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: UK health and food safety authorities alert consumers to an ongoing outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes in England and Scotland. There have been 14 linked cases of listeriosis since 2020, with eight of these since January 2022. The majority of outbreak victims reported eating ready to eat smoked fish.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE (Denmark): Statens Serum Institut reports additional cases of Salmonella Enteritidis in an outbreak of unknown source that began at the end of March 31, 2022. To date, 22 confirmed cases have been recorded.

Allergy Alert (Ireland): Lidl Ireland recalls Duc De Coeur 12 Stuffed Mussels with Parsley and Garlic (frozen) (125g; Batch codes 03.067.22.30 and 03.104.22.30; Best before 09/2023 and 10/2023) due to undeclared molluscs, milk and gluten.

Allergy Alert Update (Luxembourg): Auchan & Match recall La Provençale brand Kuddelfleck préparé (350g & 1000g; Use by 15/08/2022, 22/08/2022 & 11/09/2022) due to undeclared mustard.

United States

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: The FDA, along with CDC and state and local partners, continues to investigate consumer complaints of gastrointestinal illness and abnormal liver function that may be attributable to eating Daily Harvest French Lentil & Leek Crumbles frozen product. The FDA has received 369 illness reports, including 125 hospitalizations. Reports have been submitted by consumers in 37 states. Daily Harvest recalled the implicated product on June 23, 2022.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: CDC reports 84 confirmed outbreak cases of E. coli O157:H7, including 38 hospitalizations, in four states. Although a source has not been confirmed, the agency advises that many sick people reported eating sandwiches with romaine lettuce at Wendy’s restaurants in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania before getting sick. The FDA has initiated an on-site inspection of an unspecified location in connection with this outbreak investigation.

Food Safety Recall: D. F. Stauffer Biscuit Co., Inc. recalls Market Pantry White Fudge Animal Cookies (44 oz; Lot #Y052722; Time stamp from 15:00 to 23:00; Best by 21FEB2023; UPC 085239817698) due to possible foreign matter contamination (metal). The recalled product was distributed to Target stores nationwide.

Food Safety Recall: Pizza John’s recalls approximately 156,498 pounds of pepperoni pizza products that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

Canada

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: The Public Health Agency of Canada reports an increase in the number of non-travel related Cyclospora infections to 300 outbreak cases in five provinces: Alberta (1), British Columbia (3), Newfoundland and Labrador (3), Ontario (244), and Quebec (49). The source of this outbreak has not been identified.

Allergy Alert: Chuang’s Company Ltd. recalls Delizia brand Vegetarian Ham (500g; Batch codes 82500, 83140, 90121, 91381, 92081; UPC 8 16432 00529 8) due to undeclared wheat and gluten. The recalled product was sold in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba and Ontario.

Allergy Alert: Mrakovic Fine Foods Inc. recalls Mrakovic Fine Foods brand Natural Chicken Burger (678g; All codes where egg is not declared on the label; UPC 8 14945 00062 5) due to undeclared egg.

Food Safety Recall: Boulangerie Meilleure Qualité Chomedey Ltee (Laval, QC) recalls multiple baked goods and pastries due to the possibility that they may be unsafe to consume. Please refer to the recall notice for additional details.
