United States

NEW OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: FDA has opened an investigation into an outbreak of 59 cases of Salmonella Saint Paul illnesses. The source of the outbreak has not yet been identified, and there is no information yet available as to the geographic or demographic distribution of the victims.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: FDA reports that the number of confirmed cases of Listeria monocytogenes in an outbreak under investigation has increased to 16. The source of the outbreak still has not been determined.

Food Safety Recall (UK – Northern Ireland only): Lidl Northern Ireland recalls Culinea Paella (750g; Batch code L1354-2; Best before 20 June 2023) because the product contains cooking instructions which are not written in English. This means the product may be unsafe to eat if not cooked correctly and may cause illness if consumed.

Food Safety Recall (UK – England only): Lidl GB recalls Alesto Californian Pistachios Roasted & Salted (200g; Batch code LP200N22004; Best before 04 October 2022) due to Salmonella contamination.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE (France): Santé publique France reports 26 cases of hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) or of severe E. coli infections have been reported from nine regions of metropolitan France. Two children have died. The affected children range in age between 1 and 15 years. An additional 22 cases are under investigation. The source of the infections has not yet been found.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: FDA and CDC continue to investigate four cases of Cronobacter sakazakii illnesses in infants who were fed powdered infant formula manufactured by Abbott Nutrition in Sturgis, Michigan. Two of the infants have died. FDA has published a full list of recalled brands, which can be found on the agency’s Investigation Report update.

Allergy Alert: Fairmont Foods, Inc. recalls Schwan’s Brand Spinach and Artichoke Dip (24oz / 680g; Date code P82013 xxxx) due to undeclared wheat and soy.

Allergy Alert: Albanese Confectionery Group, Inc. recalls Albanese® Dark Chocolate Espresso Beans (9 oz; Lot #LB1111514X1; Sell by 10/25/2022; UPC 634418621436) due to undeclared peanut.

Public Health Alert: FSIS issues public health alert for Trader Joe’s CRUNCHY SLAW with Chicken, Crispy Noodles & Peanut Dressing (12-oz. plastic tray packages; Use by 03/09/22, 03/10/22, 03/11/22, or 03/12/22) due to possible foreign matter (hard plastic) contamination.
