United States

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: CDC reports 808 confirmed cases of Salmonella Oranienburg infections linked to raw whole onions imported from Mexico. Cases have been reported by 37 US states and Puerto Rico. A total of 157 of the outbreak victims have been hospitalized. Multiple onion recalls have been initiated in the United States and Canada.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: CDC reports 21 confirmed cases of Salmonella infections in 8 states linked to consumption of Citterio brand Premium Italian-Style Salame Sticks. The implicated product was sold at Trader Joe’s and Wegmans, and also may have been available at other retailers.

FOOD SAFETY ALERT: FSIS issues a public health alert because Euro Foods, a Freeland, Penn. establishment, produced ready-to-eat (RTE) Italian-style salame stick products that may be contaminated with Salmonella. A recall was not requested because FSIS has not identified a specific contaminated lot or lots, and it is believed that potentially affected products are no longer available to be directly purchased by retail consumers. The product is identified as 2-oz packages containing Citterio “Premium Italian-Style Salame Sticks ALL NATURAL” with “best by” dates up to January 23, 2022, located next to the barcode.

Food Safety Recall: Dole Fresh Vegetables, Inc. recalls four garden salad products due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

Infant Supplement Safety Recall: MaryRuth’s recalls MaryRuth’s Liquid Probiotic for Infants (1 oz; Lots #100420218 and #100520218; UPC 856645008587) due to potential Pseudomonas aeruginosa contamination. The recalled product was distributed nationwide through Target, Amazon, and direct sales from the company’s website.

Canada

Allergy Alert: Belmont Meat Products Ltd. recalls Longo’s brand Chicken Burgers (6 x 142 g; Best before 2022 MR 09, 2022 MA 13, 2022 JN 28; UPC 7 72468 03418 6) due to undeclared egg.

Allergy Alert: TFI Foods Ltd. recalls multiple Northern King brand and Thai Gold brand Shrimp Tempura due to undeclared egg, soy, milk and sulphites. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected products.

OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION: CDC is investigating a Salmonella outbreak linked to Citterio brand Salame Sticks. Twenty illnesses have been confirmed in eight states. Three people have been hospitalized. The implicated product is primarily sold at Trader Joe’s grocery stores.

Allergy Alert: Cedar’s Mediterranean Foods recalls Cedar’s Organic Mediterranean Hommus (10 oz; Sell by DEC 12, 2021 (32I21); UPC 044115403028) due to undeclared pine nuts.

Food Safety Recall: HelloFresh recalls all products containing onions delivered from July 7, 2021 through September 8, 2021 due to potential Salmonella contamination. Please refer to the recall notice for a complete list of affected production dates and product codes.

Food Safety Recall: Potandon Produce L.L.C. recalls Green Giant Fresh whole yellow onions in 2 lb. bags, 3 lb. bags, and 5 lb. bags; whole white onions in 2 lb. bags; and whole red onions in 2 lb. bags delivered directly to three UNFI retail distribution centers (DCs) in Fargo, North Dakota; Bismarck, North Dakota and Hopkins, Minnesota between July 9 and Aug 6, 2021. The onions were sourced from ProSource Produce LLC and may contain Salmonella.
