United States

OUTBREAK ALERT: CDC is investigating an outbreak of 24 Listeria monocytogenes illnesses, including two deaths, in 13 states. Twenty-two of the 24 outbreak victims have been hospitalized. The outbreak strain is a close genetic match to the strain of Listeria monocytogenes that is behind a concurrent Canadian outbreak. The source of the US outbreak is under investigation.

Food Safety Recall: Rosemount Sales and Marketing recalls Rosemount brand Cooked diced chicken mostly dark 13 mm – ½” (#18305) (4.54kg; Pack date 01/21/19; UPC 2 06 20263 12002 0) due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The recalled product, which has been linked to an outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes illnesses in three provinces, was supplied to retailers in British Columbia, Manitoba and Ontario, and may have been distributed nationwide.

OUTBREAK ALERT / FOOD SAFETY ALERT (Spain): The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition is recommending that consumers avoid consuming La Mecha brand products, which are implicated in large (186 cases) outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes illnesses in that country.
